Ok so I was going to breed my bareback female with my hooded male but changed my mind because I do not want to risk it, her being a high white and all. So I decided to breed my black and white berkshire female with my black male(he has a white blaze). They are both very sweet. I will be breeding them in 2 weeks. I just thought I'd tell you guys ahead of time. I live in Glendale, AZ. I only except pick up, or maybe if you get someone resposible to transport the rattlets safely. Pairs or trios only unless you have a rat around the same age at home that will share a cage with the rat I give you. $15 each to ensure they will not be food. You will need to sign a contract staing you will not use them as food. Pictures and information on the parents below.
Momma: She is a black and white berkshire. She is a totally sweety! I love her so much. She loves to sit in my lap or try and explore inside my pants legs or shirt(lol shes cute). She is gorgous! She will climb onto the side of the cage whenever I come in the room. Even if she all nice and comfy in her hammock she runs to the edge of the cage for some kissies. She will make a great momma. Pics of her below(taken yesterday or today):
Daddy: Only marking he has on him is a blaze on his face and white feet. He is not solid black though. He has some agouti in him.You can hardly tell but that just means that not all the babies will be black and white, there could be some possible agouti's. Anyways I call this guy my little puppy. He acts just like a dog. He is soooo cute. I love this guy! He gives kissies to. He's a sweetheart. Hes a big boy( most male ratties are hehe). Well heres some pictures of the cutie:
And him with his buddy:

I only have one question. Why?
You just had another post with the same topic that was locked because many people disagreed with what you were doing, and you made another post....of the same thing.
So, not to be mean, not to be rude, not to try and be offensive or off topic. But you must have an incredibly good reason, so WHY are you breeding them?
Any breeder should have a good answer to this question.
I feel this is required to the adoptions or adopters to know.

First off I AM NOT a backyard breeder ok. You guys are being dumb. Second of all the post got locked because I ended it because I decided not to breed my female. The female I was planning on breeding was a high white and I do not want to risk it. So I am only breeding one female and a male. Thats it. So how the heck am I supposed to be a backyard breeder? I'm breeding them once and the cages are in my room. You guys are really rude Fine its cool I'll just go. Ignore my topic plz. I'll find homes for the pups somewhere else. I wouldnt want my pups going to any of you so I'm glad to look for homes somewhere else. I already am planning on keeping 2 of the babies for me, 2 for my brother, 2 for my friend and 3 for my other friend so I have most of them homes. So its cool. Bye ya'll.

Well from the pictures you posted it looks like she is already pregnant. I don't want to get involved.

And BTW "backyard breeder" doesn't mean you breed them in your backyard

Can someone give me input on this - Isn't a blaze a sign of high-white too? I'm sorry, but i dont know genetics too well.
What lines does your female and male come from? And what breeders did you get them from?
You would have to assume, if you did get them from breeders (you would have adopted them as breeding stock, and probably signned something). Have you contacted BOTH breeders about it befrore you prepare to breed them? I would also assume you female is between 5 and 7 mnoths of age as that is the prime time to breed them. Also some females get VERY agressive during preganacy / while their nursing, so be wary of that.
Also do you have a spare aquarium for when momma gives birth, and 2 extra cages for when the babies are seperated / weaned? Are you prepared to raise the babies yourself by hand or find a serigant mother if the original mother desides to abandon the babies, or have a vet ready if their are any complications during pregnancy, birth, or post-birth? Do you know what to feed your female while she's pregnant?
If they are from petstores, i
would not recomend breeding AT ALL
. There are incredible risks with this, hidden genetics can bring up dangerous illnesses and temperment issues not currently seen in your two "babies". As sad as it is, pet-store rats are bred for quantidy not quality. And because they're sweet, and pretty - doesnt mean you should breed.
Breeders study rat genetics and lines, types of breeding etc YEARS before they even think of breeding. (Line-breeding, outcrossing, etc). They know the BASE colours of rats, and how to modify them to get colours such as "blue" or "fawn".
Not trying to be mean or harsh, I just do not agree with breeding for fun, or so your friend can have a baby rat, or because they're pretty. I think breeding as enhancing quality of life (which you'll know if you know the rats generations before it, and before those), excluding certain illnesses (Less lumps, PT's etc), and getting good socail temperments.
No hard feelings, But i utterly and COMPLETELY disagree on your ethics if this is the case.

I got the girls from this breeder but I didnt have to sign a contract. She showed me the parents and grandparents and their other siblings. For the boys I signed a contract and she is cool with me breeding them. She just want me to keep her updated on how the babies develope and what colors they produce and stuff. And yes my female will be 5 months in two weeks thats why I'm waiting 2 weeks to breed them. The male is 6 months. And I have a 20 gallon aquarium for her to have her babies in then when the babies get a few weeks I will move them back into my cage( 6 or 7 stories). And I have an extra cage also so that the boys can go in there when they are 5 weeks old.
I'm not breeding for the fun of it or so that my friends can have rats. I'm breeding because I want to better the species. I am trying to produce sweet, healthy babies. I do want to have them have cute markings but that is not my main goal. I want to educate the world on how rats are great pets. Rats havea bad reputation and I want to change that. Alot of poeple I know thought rats were dirty, gross, and mean. I taught them that rats are great family pets and already I've changed 7 peoples minds about them. And even 2 people already adopted some. And I have a few people who want one of my babies because they know they can trust me to give them healthy babies. Its heartbreaking when a young child gets a pet from a petstore and it ends up dying within a week. I think pet stores shouldnt exsist in my opinion. I want to give families healthy and good tempermented animals that will live long.
Yes I have a vet that I can trust my rats with. He is my vet all my animals(bunny, dog, hamsters and rats). I've done much reserch on how to take care of a pregnant rat; including what to feed her, how to hold her, what bedding not to use( i use aspin because pine is bad for rats) ect. I'm completly prepared. I've read 100s and 100s of sites to get everybodies opinoins. And I looked at many ratteries and rattery sites. The lady who I got my males from is my mentor. She says she can help with anything. She and I have discussed breeding rats alot. We talk all the time now because I want to know all the information I can so I am prepared for anything. I have the supplies to hand raise the litter as well.
So as you can see I am taking this seriuosly. I want to produce sweet tempermented, healthy pups.
