Can any of you AZ members give me a list of vets in the Phoenix area that do rat neuters, as well as their price for the neuter & meds, and your experience with them?

I would love to get my boys their neuters ASAP, but not so sure I would trust a vet in Prescott (I still have to look into it).

I am going down to Phoenix (2 hours away) on November 12th or 18th for the day (to pick up a bunny from the airport) and thought that if I could find a vet that charges reasonably (hopefully under $100), then I could get both the boys (or one boy) neutered that day.

Thanks!

Dr Langhofer at Scottsdale Vet Clinic is excellent.  Last I knew, it's $125 for the first neuter and about $95 for the second, provided they're done at the same time.  I'm pretty sure his information is in the vet listings on the forum.

Oh, let them know Jill sent ya!

Thanks, Dearpie  Blue Dumbo Smile! That is actually a great price for getting two boys done!  I am not sure if I will get them done on the 12th when I am in Phoenix, or wait until the end of November when I have the full money for the neuters....without having to bust into my savings for emergencies with the ratties and rabbits.

Does that include any pain meds (if they give them) afterwards? How long does it roughly take from the time that they are dropped off until you are able to come pick them up?

When I had my Malcolm neutered, I use the same vet as Dearpie, he had never been seen by them before. I paid $214 after all was said and done for him. He had to be examined prior to the surgery, that's $62 and then the buprenex was another $30. I trust Dr Langhofer more than any other vet I've been to, so I think it was more than worth it. But I just want to let you know, because I certainly wasn't expecting the bill I got since I was quoted $123 for the neuter.

Thank you for that information, rapforjane. I am still going to look into Pie's vet, but also do some searching around at vets in town here. We do have a really good exotics vet with my rats, but I am not sure how they are with neuters on them.

I think I'll do some calling around in my town today, and let ya'll know  Smiley!

Good news! I found a rattie vet in the next down over to do my neuters. I figured I would give the vet that I used to have my female rabbit spayed at. He said he has a lady in the area that brings in her pet rats for spays/neuters! He charges her $50 per neuter with meds and an exam before hand is $25, so he said he will charge me the same.

This vet was excellent with Madilyn (my bunny), and I asked thousands of questions, since this was my first animal that I had spayed myself (meaning no parents involved).

Looks like my boys will definitely be getting their neuters in the middle of November! I also have to take my heart bunny in for his neuter at the end of November  Smiley!

I really hope the neuter calms down Leonidas, so he will get along with Spartan, then we can add in more neutered boys in the future if we want  Grin.
