Yes one of the ramps I "borrowed" from my FN because one of my wussy baby boys didn't like the solid ramps lol-- the bottom ramp I left out and just put the igloo under it for them to get up and down through the hole in the balcony

I don't mind that only one side opens- to be perfectly honest it makes me nervous with the FN to open both sides. I am always afraid the boys piling up(and pushing each other) on the balcony will fall out lol so I tend to open only the right side unless I am cleaning. The Feisty Ferret is a good cage- not quite the quality that the FN is but I am pleased with it. It opens a total of HALF the cage- much bigger space than the Martins. I can reach everything and get my head and shoulder/arm in with no problem. I love that I can reach through and give scritches and get kisses. The bar spacing is 7/8 ths of an inch. I don't think adult girlies could get through- My big boys seem lost in it lol- there is a good amount of space.

I've had mine about 2 weeks. I'm really happy with it. My girls are on the small side and can not get anything but their noses through the bars. I like that only one side opens up b/c I have more control of who comes out. Very easy to clean. The stairs are made of plastic so I just rinsed them in the sink. The only thing I didn't like was the bar spacing on the middle shelf so I bought 12x12 ceramic tiles and covered them with flannel.

I have a few questions for anyone who owns a feisty ferret.

If anyone has the time, or wouldn't mind doing this, could you measure how tall the ACTUAL cage is, not including the wheels and rack thing beneath? Either that or measure the wheels up to the bottom of the cage. I'm trying to get a picture of how much room the rat will have in the cage. I want to do an accurate cage calculator with it. How many rats can it comfortably fit?

Just by looking at the overall dimensions of both cages the FF is: 31.5"W x 20.5"D x 55"H and the FN is: 36in L x 25in W x 62in H.  This is including the stand.  The FN has greater length and width, and probably has a higher stand.  According to the cage calculator the FN (without the stand) can hold 6 rats per level, so 12 total.  I would think about 8-9rats fit in the FF.  I couldn't find the actual dimensions of the FF without the stand so this is just my guesstimate.

You could just get the one level FN, as that would be plenty of space for your 3 girls, and still allow for future GGMR!

Can someone take a picture of this cage with a cat in it, like the FN? Or with a dog next to it? I really want to get an idea of how big this cage really is.

My partner and I would musing over the holes in the shelves while looking at the display model. We figured out (at least, we think) that you can switch the ramp so that it's under the hole. However, I don't know how well that would work if you did that with both, and how the ladder from the middle floor would hit, and it's something I'd love to know about, too.

I ended up just putting my fleece over the hole.  I.e., the fleece is attached to the cage anyway (I use large safety pins) so it doesn't really matter -- once the fleece is over the whole shelf it's like the hole isn't there.

I did try attaching the ramps so the rats could come up through the holes when they come up the ramps, and I think that's the intended purpose, but (1) it made the angle kind of steep, and (2) it made affixing the liners difficult.  So I just covered them, as above.

Mmmmm, so it is to crawl through then.  Okay!  Lol I was just confused.  I guess I can just get liners to cover those.


Oh, a little off topic, but what kind of safety pins/clips do you use to hold down your liners??  And where can you get them from?

Oh wow, Elizabeth, I was just looking at your website, what a great place you have!! I would love to have all of that space. Have you ever had trouble with horses kicking each other? My aunt had one of her borded horses shatter one of her horse's legs and had to have her put down. How do they deal when taken away from your place? Having been so attached and all?

I am the one who is going to make the liners for w1ngs0fate, and I have never seen the FF in person. I would be willing to give you a deal on some liners or hammocks for yourself for the trouble

Well, horses do kick, but most problems b/t horses occur when they are stabled part of the time (when they are out 24/7 there is no "re-entry" period where the hierarchy must be re-established).  Additionally, most major injuries inflicted via kicking occur when horses are shod -- it's the difference b/t being hit w/ a bare fist and being hit w/ brass knuckles.  I am a barefoot trimmer and believe that all horses should be barefoot.  I board horses, but no horses w/ hind shoes are ever allowed on my property, period.

Horses are herd animals, so no, they don't love being separated.  But they are ridden separately and often travel to shows, clinics, etc.  They adjust.  We never take more than 2 at a time (having a 2-horse trailer!) so there are always at least 2 left home, and as long as they have each other they are fine.
