Oh Rebecca, I am so sorry  You made the right decision, as hard as it is to let him go. Obviously he was miserable and it was the best thing to do to put him out of his misery. I am glad the vet agreed to give him gas first and you were able to cuddle and comfort him until he passed. You are right, he had a wonderful life!
Sweet Henry, you are free of all the pain now. Run and look for your friends!

What a handsome boy Henry was. I am very sorry his time had come but always remember that letting go means you were not a selfish person and you understood him very well and knew how to meet his needs. Love never ends and the love you gave to Henry will always be with him and he shares it with those who have been less fortunate than he was. He had a fantastic rat momma who understood when letting go was the most humane thing for Henry. I know how you are hurting right now, but I hope there is a sense of relief as well. Henry is whole again, healthy and forever young. As you said, he had a very nice life, he had company, he didn't pass on his own, you were there for him when he needed you the most (when you adopted him, when he was sick and when he passed away) - Henry had a very good life with you and his buddies.
