Seranade (Irish Siamese Dumbo) figured out how to escape and go visit the boys.  Neither potential father is ideal as Mochiatto is a runt (needs maintenance antibiotics) and Esperanzo is an elderly fellow at ~3 years and on maintenance Revolution for mites.  (Not a problem when he was younger)

Seranade was found cuddled up with Mochiatto while Esperanzo was found in a bad mood.  (Didn't get lucky?)

Here are pictures of momma and the two possible daddies.......

Seranade has both a robust brux and licky personality.  Pretty laid back for a lady.  Mochiatto is constantly referred to as my friendly rat as he is eager to greet new comers.  Esperanzo has a world famous brux that will always remain unforgettable to me.  His whole body trembles with the eye boggle.  A forehead scritch brings it on and is beyond amazing to witness.  Esperanzo was a very gentle alpha and ONLY did his bruxing one on one.

Seranade

Mochiatto  (Charcoal capped)

Esperanzo

Momma started giving birth on March 22nd.  The babies have bright healthy skin, strong eeps, and are already suckling when I don't think mom is done giving birth.

Hail to the momma rat.  Not for the weak or faint hearted!

BTW, the order of expressed interest to date is:

VOICE: ratty_pack (maybe a girl named "Hope" if my marriage is on solid ground soon and Slinky chills)
VOICE: Topaz (two girls to adopt and can foster in WI)
VOICE: BlueFrog (if she has found homes for rescues)
VOICE: eastermonster (two boys if current boys aren't contageous)

"Voice" will mean, the order of expressed interest in the babies.  "Confirmed" will be that an agreement has been made with potential adopters.  Will charge $6 to be a dollar over pet store feeder prices.

I'm located in Carpentersville, IL.  Topaz who has graciously offered to foster is located in Orfordville, WI.  Needed to bump her up in the voice of interest with the generosity of her offer.

Okay, couldn't bring myself to disturb mom with her feats of motherhood today.  Her furr has settled and motherhood in gently settling in for her.  At one moment she arched her back and all the babies were strong enough to stay latched on.  One even dangled!   Here are extremely marginal photos where you can see Mom's deep/covered nest.

There are both ruby and black eyes.  The babies squiggle more when I talk to them!   Heart

Seranade still enjoys being petted.  She didn't like being picked up though.  Put her back right away.  SO  GLAD she still trusts me!

If you've got questions about the babies, please take this thread over to Rat Tails.  Adoptions is not an area for discussion.  This area is strictly for the adoption of rats.

Dearpie, my apologies--removed questions.

Took the babies out for the first time to have a final count of 14!

8 have ruby and/or pink eyes.

6 have dark eyes.  Seeing the markings of Berkshire in one baby.

Assistance from a reputable source about this litter:

There's really no way to know the parentage - it's certainly possible for both males to have mated with her.  Seranade is carrying mink, russian blue, and very possibly american blue - either daddy could possibly be carrying albino (if Esperanzo is a himilayan, for instance, instead of a siamese, he would be c(h)/c ) and triple-dilutes (three dilutes, say mink, american blue and russian blue all at the same time) would end up looking like white/PEW rats. At this age there's no way to tell if your babies are PEWs, Himilayan, Siamese, or even Doves or Platinums (mink+american blue, these are red-eyed rats and would be light-eyed babies.) Your blacks/dark-eyed babies could be black, mink, or russian blue - there's no way to tell what either father might be carrying.

The babies are beyond blessed with a "super achiever" mom.  I watch her nursing and bathing simultaneously.  She is *so* responsive to a peep of noise.  Her hair puffs with the slightest distress of a baby.  She cleans the nest.  I only see her sleep when the babies are sleeping with full tummies.

The only thing not clean is the bottom of her dumbo ears and the other side of the cage.

Wanted to take the babies out to socialize, but mom was doing way more than I could.  Ode to Momma Seranade.

Updated photos.  Seeing more variations in shading and markings.  The 6 little ones with darker eyes all have light tummies.

Holding off a little on determining gender as will try to match the genders with markings for baby selection....  Hold on tight, we'll know soon!  Peach fuzz is visible now!   Hyper

Any going to Madison, Milwaukee, etc. can be housed with me until the owners pick them up.  That will cut travel time for everyone.

Okay, just hold tight!  Sexing babies isn't my strong point and was 25% off during my neighbor's litter.  Think around 3 weeks can get the genders solid and then we will know colors too.

These babies have an *incredible* mom that positively loves being a mom even when tired.  They are licked, nursed, and snuggled warm over 95% of the day!

Their cage is in our family room to be exposed to all our daily activities, etc.  Well, our family is abundantly aware that there are 14 babies and 12 nipples.  Seranade works tirelessly feeding them until all is quiet.

The 99.5% dust free litter - WASN'T.  Took out all the babies and cleaned noses.

Looks like two blazes are in the litter.  One *is* a boy.

Guessing, girly blaze.

Smiley I sex baby mice all the time in my research lab, I think I might know something that could be helpful.

Male baby mice at least have a black spot between their genitals and anus.

I am borrowing this photo from Rattyrat.com to illustrate that this does occur in rats.

Smiley I've found it to be 99.9% effective when there is a case of a girl who has somewhat male appearing genitalia or a weird looking boy. Hope that helps.
