Heres the ebay link to it saying it can house 3 to 4 rats
http://item.express.ebay.com/THE-5-STORY-RAT-MANSION-HIGHEST-QUALITY-CAGE-ON-EBAY_W0QQitemZ290216418390QQihZ019QQcmdZExpressItem
Dimentions: 21 3/4 long by 16 inches deep, by 33 inches tall. Half inch bar spacing.

Here is the one I have and bought 2 years ago. It has been housing 2 rats at a time but I'm ready to get 4 rats in it. Is it big enough to happily contain that many rats? I was looking at martin cages and they don't seem much bigger.

Either I have to get more creative, add more things that fit ect. (I could use some help) Or Do I have to buy another cage?

Im thinking about sawing out the wheel, which really seems like a danger for 4 rats (their is a space in back where a rat could get caught) Then adding some pvc tubes where the wheel is suppose to be

I honestly wouldn't put more than 2 rats in that cage.  Though I think it's supposed to be big enough for 3.

If you're looking at a Martin's cage, go for the R695 if for 4 rats.

An area of 11 by 36 makes a huge difference though. My 695 just came, but I haven't had a chance to set it up. The pan itself is huge though. From what I've seen of the cage you have in real life, it's very small compared to the 695.

hmm I was just looking at it in the photos section, it looks really good, easier to place toys, easier to clean. Wish I found out about it before I bought my current one

I think the rat mansion is a good starter cage for 2 rats only.

I would not put in anymore than that.

And the footprint of cages makes a large difference for space as well, not just height.

I definitely like the idea of sawing out the wheel....my co-worker ended up having a baby girl PTS at the e-vet at 4am when she got caught behind the wheel the other girlie was running on. Her back legs got so badly mangled that there were bones visible.   Sad It was awful.

It was in the same cage as this pink one pictured.   I have now become totally paranoid about how wheels are placed.

I have three rats in that cage. It's not bad, but I'm planning to add to my family and thus have ordered another cage. Funnily enough, the cage I'm getting (http://www.petco.com/product/15487/Super-Pet-Multi-Floor-Ferret-Home.aspx) is twenty bucks less than the Rat Mansion. Should have done my research.

Definitely remove the wheel. When I bought it, even the cashier told me it was a "death trap".

Another issue I have are the pull out food trays. Before I secured the little hinges, my rats were able to push out the trays and escape.

So basically, it's a decent cage. But if you look around more you'll be able to find more suitable cages for a better price.

If you REALLY look at that cage, how much floor space does it have? It's got the bottom pan, and a few VERY SMALL shelves taken up by food dishes and the wheel.  (Ooops, and the one full floor that I was thinking the older/smaller version doesn't have)  There's really not any floor space to run and play without falling off.   A martins 695 has a full floor, in addition to the bottom pan, and a shelf or two.  A 685 has a full floor and the bottom pan.  It's ALL floor space.  That makes a HUGE difference as to how many rats will fit and be happy, along with toys and hidey boxes, etc.

I actually have this cage and I had five smaller girls in it, they did fine, and they had plenty of room to play.  They had enough room to get away from eachother if need be also.  Although, I did have them out for about six hours a day...they got a lot of free range time, but I just had my son (*eeek* Heart) so, they don't get to be out as much and they are now in a FN.  They seem to love it to death and popcorn all around and run on their giant wheel and whatnot...so I really think it depends on how much out time that you are planning on providing for them.  If they are out a lot then they will most likely be sleeping when they are in the cage.

Don't forget to ask PetSmart and Petco for price matching.  We got the Feisty Ferret Home at Petsmart for the same price as they have it at www.ferret.com, I just printed the page and brought it with me Smiley

I've kept 3 BIG males in that cage without a problem.  I think the Coast (which is what that looks like) if properly added to (hammocks, toys, etc) can hold 4 rats per the cage calculator.

For the cost of Martins for powder coating plus shipping - if you've got a Petsmart in the area, get them to price match to the FF or to the new SP for Exotics which holds 5 rats per the calculator.  Way, way cheaper.

I'd say that it's probably not big enough for 4 rats.
Have you seen the new Super Pet for exotics? It's a very nice roomy cage thats big enough for 4. It also has small bar spacing.

Please don't put in PVC it is toxic.  Here is one link, but you can find a ton more by searching "PVC dangers"

The Super-Pet-Multi-Floor-Ferret-Home seems tempting but the martin cage seems better for the floorspace. I don't plan on ever having more than 4 anyway  Tongue

That cage cant hold four rats I had it and had four girls in it when I was waiting for the fn to come it and it was so cramped. Plus it isnt really a good cage and the wheel broke one of my girls foot.
