Oh geez. They're eating rats on Survivor...

This is the big advert. push this week. "Tune in next week for rat eating! Hasn't been done since first season!" With several film clips of a possibly dead rat.
I've never watched this show... but wow. Tacky.

That show bugs me on so many levels. Not only do I hate sensationalist TV, but they really promote fear, disgust, and revulsion of perfectly good pets. It's like the antethisis of everything I try to educate people about, rats, tarantuals, scorpions, whatever.

I saw the episode of fear factor where they had to carry dead rats in thier mouths. I was pissed.

OMG! Yeah, wouldn't have been happy to see that either. The poor rats died so they could make money.....and nothing more. And people wonder why our world is in the shape it is....HELLLLLOOOOO! Such tards!

I actually really love the show Survivor, i just don't like how they feel the need to ruin it by hurting/killing innocent animals. The people of the show sign up for everything they face. They get paid, and they can leave whenever they want. The animals have no choice in the matter. I think the producers of that show abuse their power. If you are going to have animals on a tv show, at least give them the same respect you give the people on the show. I'm not saying that the animals should get "paid", but they should at least be treated decently. Personally, i think that anyone that does not have respect for animals, doesn't deserve to be respected.

I honestly don't see how hunting and eating rats is any different than them going out and catching and eating fish or hunting other game. Other than they don't have the larger animals available to them to hunt.
My dad doesn't do it anymore, but he used to hunt rabbits for food a long time ago.... (As well as large game.)
These are not pets or even domesticated animals placed out there. They are wild animals. And they are being eaten, so they are being killed for a purpose not just for fun.

In one country a critter is a pet, in another it's a source of protein.
There's nothing terribly disgusting about it. It is what it is.

I think this has already been brought up in another thread? Anywho, I agree with Aimra and Lise
for me not being the only person on this site with that emotion! However, I do agree that this isn't simply a means of protein; this is the corperations trying to make more money, attempting to draw in the general population to watch stupid junk that is completely non-educational and barely entertaining. Besides, I don't watch television. I think it's simply one of the sources of ADD and ADHD, along with horrible ads for stupid shows like this one. Bah to television!

Yeah, protein is protein, I'm a snake owner, I can certainly appreciate that notion. To me, using rats (and spiders, scorpions) to inspire FEEEEAAAAARRRRRRRR is what bugs me. We need to get over that, and educate ourselves, (well, not we us here, we're rat enthusiasts, but we as a society) instead of reveling in ignorance, and being afraid of silly things.

I'm a reptile owner, too. It bothers me a little that I feed rats to my snake, yet I have them as pets as well, but it is what it is, just like on occassion I eat meat. Out of sheer curiosity, do you keep the turantulas together or seperate? lol

All seperate, in their own enclosures. Luckily, they don't need a load of space.
