Weight Loss/Gain Question
«

I got a phone call today from a friend that adopted two of the foster babies that I had. She was concerned with the size difference of the two girls she adopted.
She said one of the girls, Dusty, has been growing like a weed, and is a little chubby. :p But the other girl, Pocket (her two-year old named her), hasn't grown at all. She was trying to get pictures for me, but can't find the USB cord to upload the pics. So she told me that Pocket can fit right in the palm of her one hand, while Dusty takes two hands to hold. These two girls are sisters and are 10 weeks old.
To me that's a really big size difference. When I took them to her a few weeks ago, they were both the same size. She also said that Pocket will stash the food, and Dusty will eat it. So there's the possibility that Pocket is not getting any food. But she did say she has seen Pocket eat, and they have taken her out of the cage and fed her alone.
What do you all think?
Should she seperate the two and see if she can get Pocket to gain weight? Feed Pocket fattening foods?

Pocket doesn't need fattening foods, but she does need to get an adequate amount of food. How much do each of the girls weigh? Until you see the rats, or at least pictures, you can't really go by the general descriptions given.

I second what Pie said.
Also, I had a litter in which one female decided she did not like to eat what was being provided (lab blocks). She had been eating them up until she was about 6 weeks old and then decided no, that's not what she wants. She refused to eat anything at that point except for homecooked foods and we spent a good month feeding a variety to her. I switched everyone over to the dog foods I have mentioned a few times on this forum and she has decided she likes that and is nice and big now (not fat). But she had been showing remarkable size difference due to her not eating the proper diet.

Thanks for the information.
If I could, I would definately go see them, but they're in Cali.
So I'll pass the information to her.

That was my first thought, too. Is 10 weeks considered late onset? Shea, can you ask your friend if the smaller girl appears bloated and if she's going to the bathroom normally?
