There are about 100 rats in NB and NS in need of good homes.
There are adults and babies, regular eared as well as dumbos.
Most of these are in a rescue run by one man in his home.
It is an overwhelming situation ...

A number of people are setting up a rat train through NB, Quebec & Ontario.
Adoptors need to be approaved for adoption prior to the rat train.
Rats being adopted can be neutered or spayed by a vet before going on the rat train if adoptors would like that done.

Please contact myself (Squeeky_Noel@yahoo.com) or lilspaz68 if you can help or would like to adopt.

Hi,  I would be interested in adopting Miya and her cagemate, the female that you list as having an interesting past. She has had two litters of tiny babies and I would like to adopt Mr. Big. I can make the drive to Ontario if that helps. They are all beautiful and would love to have them all.

We have a very big situation here where a man running a rescue out of his home has been overwhelmed and we have over 100 rats looking for homes.  The majority of these rats were born or lived at the rescue most of their lives.    Puppy Dog Eyes:  They are not getting the care and attention they need and really do deserve to have a proper ratty home and life.  Heart

A few of us got together and found willing adopters in Ontario so decided The Rat Train must happen!  Cheeky

We have transport from Moncton, New Brunswick to Montreal, Quebec, where some wonderful people could be picking up rats and taking them back to NY to their new homes.  From Montreal the Train will roll through Kingston then Toronto, up to Barrie and up north past Sudbury, ON.
Going westward we have transport up to London, Ontario for sure and possibly Windsor.  From London, another New Yorker may be picking up rats and taking them to their part of NY for adopters. We may even be able to go as far as Central Jersey and Eastern PA.  Cheesy  blob3

These rats have been evaluated, all are handleable, some are very friendly, but others might need a bit of socialization.

The pics and descriptions are here…

Boys (of which there are almost 4 times as many)
http://www.jorats.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4759

Girls

The rats have an adoption fee of $10 each, and you have to be approved after submitting an application.

If anyone is interested in helping out the rescue effort a little (as we all know a little can make such a difference) we have a Paypal account set up for Adoption Fees and Donations for expenses, and medical costs.  Please put a note what your donation is for.

PayPal Link for East Coast Rescue Expenses

PM me for an application or more information, or if you are a newbie (and find you cannot PM just yet  Wink) post on here and I’ll get back to you.

Or email:
shelagh.hall@gmail.com
   or
Sunshineratrescue@yahoo.com

Thank you for thinking of these deserving rats!!!!

I will be in Buffalo the second week in June and am driving through Rochester, Syracuse, and Binghamton New York down through Allentown to Philly.  That is the return leg of the trip.

The first leg has us going from Philly to Pittsburgh and through to Western Ohio.

Have the rats been quarantined?  I have three new little ones to look out for if the adoptee ratties need to stay with us for a few days.

Awesome!  Maybe we can find some adopters in Philly now?

If you seriously have transport into the Phila area, I am in Maryland and if anyone is interested in my area in adopting I can meet up with the transport to Phila and bring them down even further into Maryland, which would then also open up to people adopting in Virginia.  I personally can only do transports on the weekends from PA/southNJ back to MD.  If anyone gets cleared for adoption in VA or my surrounding area they would need to drive to me (Gaithersburg, MD) to pick up.

Shelagh has my info if we need to work that out.

I'm not able to take any of these little ones as I'm all the way down in Florida. But, I sent a donation to help with rattie train expenses -- this is quite an undertaking!

Good luck!

I should mention that these ratties are of all ages from 7 week old babies to teens, young adults and a few ratties over two.  Check out the pics on www.jorats.com

We still have approx. 65 boys and 16 girls to find good homes for in the next 3 weeks.

Hi
I don't know if you have any transports going as far as NYC I live on Long Island ( the city is as far as I can go) and would love to adopt lil mama who I think would be a great pair with my dumbo girl angel and I would also like to adopt two of the baby boys as cagemates for my dumbo male remy. I'd be willing to help transport any more ratties to Long Island if you have any offers

Amanda, are you going into Canada to pick up ratties and then travel through NY? How far into NY are you going, Rochester and Syracuse?

Thanks for the offer!  Spread the word to people you know - if anyone else is interested in adopting - only a handful of ratties need to find homes now!

Just want to say again that there are just a few groups of rats still looking for homes and at this point I am willing to travel quite a ways around NY to find these guys homes.  So if you or anyone you know is interested in adopting, PLEASE email Shelagh for an application Smiley Smiley
