I was at the hardware store picking up some Painters Touch to bring new life to an old cage when I saw this RustOleium Hammered paint.  I got very excited.  See I am going to be getting metal pans for my FNs next week.  They are galvanized and I was considering painting them.  This paint would make my pans look like they belonged in the cage.  I could get darn near the exact same color as the FN.  I don't know what it is but that is why I HATE modified cages.  I like everything to look like it belongs and should be the way it is nice and neat and when you modify a cage it looks half patched and yucky.  Sooooo if I could paint the pans the same color as the cage that would just make my millennium!!!

What do you all think?  Would it be safe to sue this pain on the pans?  http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=29

My BF is a painter and has heard of this stuff before. He's almost positive that it's an oil-based paint. Im not sure how dangerous that can be to a rat if chewed or eaten. Might want some other opinions on that. Maybe try researching the product online to see if you can find out more about it.

Actually my husband does heating and air for a living and is a sheet metal worker so he is going to make them for me!  So I will be getting my pans for FREE!!!!!  The only thing holding me back from doing it sooner is the idea of galvanized pans.  But my girls have forced my hand.  They are slowly destroying the plastic pans and it won't be long before there isn't much left of them and they will be able to escape out of the bottom of the FN.

So since they are free I just might leave them galvanized and just have him make me new ones when they get too yucky.  I just don't know for sure what I want to do.

That is strange becuz my girls are crazy chewers but there are only a couple of nibbles on the pans.  I, however, dropped the tray from the upper level last week-end and put a nice crack and chip in it.  yeah me!

I am sure they will find that area and help it along now.

I did however lay plexiglass down under the bottom tray to help prevent poopies, food, etc from dropping down to the floor as easily.

I might have to bring the measurements to my brother becuz he has offered before to make me trays for them...why hadn't i remembered that sooner?!?!?

My personal girls have never touched their pans.  Same as you just a few random chew marks here and there around the edges.  However, I introed 4 of Thumbelina's baby girls from her 2nd litter to see if my girls would help socialize them for me.  Those girls are plastic sharks I swear.  Who would have ever thought baby rats could cause sooooo much destruction.
