Well, you guys were right when you suggested a snip was in order for my nervous boy Golly.
He's currently separated from Skinner, as he bit him without provocation. He was on-edge from a bath earlier in the evening and just didn't calm down. (I know baths aren't usually necessary. They get one once per six weeks or so to cut down on my getting hives.) After they both seemed calm again, they were put back together. Skinner gently licked his face and acted submissive, but Golly immediately became terrified and lashed out. Skinner lost a toenail down to the quick, and Golly got a nice gouge in his shoulder.
Have any of you neutered due to nervousness, and did it help? Golly's just so wound up all the time. He's rough and rambunctious and wants to be alpha, but just isn't a nice one at all. Since Skinner lost weight and started vying for alpha, Golly's just not happy. Skinner is fair and gentle but firm, and Golly just stiffens and screams and acts like an idiot.
He hasn't calmed down since the other night. In fact, he saw Skinner in my sister's lap and started shaking and fear/anger bruxing again. So I guess they won't be back together until he gets the snip, hopefully this week. My fear of surgery is now outweighed by my fear of them hurting or killing one another. Thank goodness the injuries were minor this time!
Any tips about reintroductions after a neuter, and just general aftercare?
