At what age do female rats reach their full adult size (stop growing)?

Rats typically reach adult size at about 8months old, but they will continue to grow very very slowly their whole life. Sometimes that means growing wider so it's more noticeable. =)

Well, I've had my girls (Boko - 7? mos, Gussie - 3 mos) in this one cage for a while now and they've been able to squeeze through the bars.  It's up on a table, so I usually leave a door or two open and they can run in and out of the bars or the doors.  Since it's been up on a table, their escaping hasn't been a problem, but now Boko is getting more courageous (with her age, I assume) and she's started jumping off the table (especially when we're out of the house and I'm afraid she'll get lost or hurt while we're gone).  I've tried keeping the doors closed, but like I said, they can squeeze through the bars fairly easily.  I have a smaller, 1-level backup cage I can put them in, but obviously I'd rather keep them in the larger, multi-level home.  The difference in the spaces between the bars is only 1/8th of an inch (7/8ths vs. 3/4ths)!!  Gussie is pretty happy just to explore her current surroundings, but I'm worried Boko will never be big enough NOT to escape the cage.

Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to keep them in the cage when we are not around?  Should I keep hoping they will soon be too big to squeeze out of the bars or is Boko about as big as she's going to get?

. . .  Any other ideas?  Smiley  We tried the mesh idea before and it wasn't that great of a hit, with us or the girls.

I know mesh doesn't look very nice around the cage, but that's pretty much the only thing you can do aside from buying a new cage. Is your 7month old can get through the bars, chances are she'll still be able to at 1yr old as well......some rats are just small.
Martins cages are great and totally escape proof for any age rats.
