My rats are still not litter-trained...No matter how many pats and compliments I give to them when they go in the litter-box (If they do),they just refuse to be completely trained. They're doing OK,Cinnamon will go in the litter box sometimes, but other than that, they poop everywhere! (Mostly Lightning) I want to get them to use the litter so that at playtime, they won't be making messes everywhere. How do you guys do it?

Thanks for reading. -Serenah

It helped my boys to keep a litter box at the top and bottom of their cage. Maybe for now you can put one on every level? My boys aren't perfect yet either, but they're getting there!

My females are doing just fine, those BOYS though.. sometimes they are so good, other times, I can change their towels one day, and by the end of the day the cage is just COVERED with raisins, sometimes ones that have been walked through and squished into the towels -_-

I have a long cage, that only has one level. It seems everyone else has Ferret Nations, though. Tongue Smiley

My rats have a litter box in a corner of the cage,it's big enough for them, but they just won't go in it. They think it's some fancy kind of bed,so they sleep in it.. Tongue Roll Eyes Yellow Cute Laugh

(Oops, sorry,I got the rat care corner mixed up with Home Squeak Home.I was pretty tired.. Ratty Smiley )

Honestly, I've never been able to fully litterbox train any group of rats.  It seems like the more rats in a group you have, the less likely they are to care about the litterboxes it.  I think it's a, "well, he did it!" kind of situation.  Though, when I only have a couple of rats in a cage, they are much better about it!

My rats are not completely litter trained yet, either.  I have a ferret nation and I keep 2 litter boxes in there.  One on each main level.  They use it *most* of the time, but not always!  I figure what they get in the boxes is better than nothing.  It's one less raisin I have to clean up!  Smiley
