Two dumbo dark cap boys still need a home :)

For those who have not been here, i had a offer to take in more than 10 rats from a breeder who basically happen to have snakes.. I was not about take in some odd number over 10 with females that were heavly pregant also included it would have been nuts and unrealistic especally since i have 14 of my own rats and 7-10 fosters in my care getting ready to be sent to there new homes. The rats are all dumbo, a few dumbo rex blue and rex dumbos. There are over 5 litters being born or have been born from this group, sadly the breeder did not split up male and females so almost all females are having babies. Here is the response i got from T when i emailed her to find out who was still left.
"Dear Kayte,
I received seven females (six of them visible pregnant) and two adult males, all housed together, on Saturday. Of those, the two males and four of the females have already found homes, though of course their owners will have babies to adopt out later. The remaining three females are here. One of those is giving birth as I type this message. The other two are so heavily pregnant that I do not plan to move them. I will be adopting out the babies for all three rex litters litters, PLUS the ten day old litter I currently have on hand. "
As you can see the only rats left are all ready to have their babies if you live close by and have experience or want to gain experience of caring for a litter and adopting out the babies please let me know.
Thanks for helping out and i will keep you posted as i get information, Also if anyone wants to donate any extra cages or just about anything to help us out that would be great.

I should have a spare cage for a pair if you need a foster and were willing to get out to Rockford again.
Though, I have to warn you that I have an intense soft-spot for rexes.
So I can't guarantee one or two wouldn't end up staying.
Any idea on their handleability/personalities? (Just hit me up with more info.)

I would like to know if you could find out. Would also like to know their general disposition and handability. I'm kind of considering adoption but unsure. I've always loved agouti rexes and the dumbo is an extra bonus <3 he/she is just adorable but I like to stick to one sex for safety reason and have all males.

I don't understand this:
"these are from a breeder who normally breeds for food but also sells her babies as pets. She charges $15 per a rat to make sure they don't go as food."
She usually breeds feeders but when she gets the pretty ones charges more? Aren't buying these rats supporting this breeder? How is it different than rescuing feeders or buying from pet shops? Once you take in and find homes for the 10 rats ($150?) won't she just breed more and sell them as feeders and pets?

I was wondering the same thing. Why would you want to give this person your money? Just to get some "pretty" rats? She's just going to turn around and use that money to breed a bunch more rats to replace any you buy from her, and make a tidy profit from it as well.

This is a breeder that is in the process of downsizing. The grandfather buck just passed pushing 5 yrs old. He was her favorite and she is devastated. His son has one of the best temperaments that I've ever met. She happens to have snakes that she is also in the process of rehoming. It's not a matter of selling and planning to replace. It's giving these former breeder stock and some babes a chance to leave her as a pet rather than food. If you'd met them, you'd see that while they are stunning, it's the overall temperament of each and every one that grabs me. This is all, of course, my own personal opinion from my personal experience of meeting them and the person that bred them. Yes, she says she breeds for temperament, health, longevity seems to be on her side, and I know there's more involved, and while she seems very knowledgeable, I'm just a regular person who loves rats and seeing the results and liking them. Hope this helps to explain.

I don't believe it's possible to breed for temperament, health, longevity, etc. when you're breeding for snake food (and breeding high whites and odd-eyes, as well).. it's just not possible if you're eliminating any of your offspring, whether some actually go as pets and live a long time or not. I don't personally agree with giving this "breeder" a bunch of money.
Even if you "like her results." If she does want them to go as pets and is stopping breeding, why is it a matter of "give me x amount of money or else these rats will be food"?
At any rate, just be aware of potential issues with megacolon, as several of those rats are high-white (and odd-eye). Particularly if there are babies.

Adoption Section. No discussions unless you are seriously interested in adopting the rats.

For those who do want to adopt. The rats have been remove from the breeder and are staying with 3 different people so that no one had to take on 10 rats at once or more. Personally i have 3 babies, 2/3 may already have homes, i will get an update on how the others are doing soon i have a dumbo rex female blaze face who is 5-6 weeks old ( very small), she is living with a sister and sligtly older female very happy and running in her wheel. Please let me know if anyone wants to know more about the pictures at the top of tread.
THanks

I got a blue rex dumbo girl from this group who had been living with males and is more than likely pregnant, but not showing yet. I'm sure babies will arrive soon enough though.

The agouti rex is a female but i am stilll getting things together. I only have 5 and all of mine have homes but i am working on getting a list together so that i know who is male and female because I didn't even know myself but from what i have seen here they are good rats i mean i have them for maybe 2 days so they don't really trust me yet. Good personality, good health, LOVE wheels lol..
I will post a list of who is left with pictures when i can, the rats have been split between at least 3 different people and Bluefrog or lori said that there were at least 2 females who are pregnant, Topaz has one and i will have to get more information on the other girls. The babies are small i think they are 5-6 weeks old. Thank you for everyones help and i will keep you updated.
nevadamoon just PM she has two blaze face blue females ( Dumbo/Rex) who are pregnant so there will be plenty of babies after the "adults" who if they are anything like the adult i received are maybe 3-4 months old.. i also have a possible pregnancy on my hands. I am glad we were able to work together and get these rats out of harms way, Thank you again for everyone helping out

Minor correction.
I actually have the standard-coated dumbo masked girl (Quinn) and then one of the Dumbo agouti's.
These two:

I can't speak for everyone, Ratlove, but in my case, these 2 mamas are definitely going to have permanent homes with me. (Of course, the babies that are going to be here very soon will be up for adoption.)

SD is a long way from here and that kind of trip would not be healthy for a female who could be in labor at any moment, i would just wait till the babies come and see if there are a few you like and maybe than get a train together but for right now lets just wait and see.
Would everyone rather have all the litters post here as they are born or have a separate thread for each litter?

so that is 6 litters ! okay there will be plenty of babies to go around .. Just let me know if anyone wants to adopt i think at least i will go around and get pictures of each litter as they are born with their mama and than maybe have each litter split off into different post so everyone isn't confused
