I have been fostering Josephine for Mainely Rat Rescue since her arrival in our home on March 17th.  She was part of a large group of rats who were dumped in the rain in a cardboard box on the steps of a petstore.  They were taken to the Conway shelter and 3 females, 6 pinkies were then transferred to the care of MRR.  She came to me along with her sister Katie Sue and her babies.  Josephine was on pregnancy watch and on Day 21 she delivered two little eepers.

In spite of her tough start with little, if any, positive human contact, Josephine has a very sweet disposition.  Before her pregnancy became apparent, she was really enjoying being petted and stroked.  She was not comfortable at all with being picked up and held, but we are working on that again now that her babies are 2 weeks old.

Josephine has two sweet and precious little guys!!  Their names are Jeremiah and Jameson.  They were born on April 4th, World Rat Day!!!  (Just try to forget their birthday!)  Here are some shots from the days they were in Josephine's belly to teeny little newborns up until they were 10 days old with their velveteen coats.  They will be either PEW or Himalayans as there were Himis in this group of rats.  Stay tuned!

Meet Josephine and her sons!

Josephine and her babes will be available for adoption on May 9th.  Please contact Mainely Rat Rescue (kim@mainelyratrescue.org or paula@mainelyratrescue.org) if you are interested in adopting.  They are being fostered in Maine, but transportation can be arranged throughout most of New England.  Remember discounted spay and neutering is available through MRR!

Josephine's little boys are becoming mini rats!  They are now two weeks old.  They seem so tiny to me, not the big lugs I thought they would be with only two of them in the litter.  Still, they have great promise to be big squishes!  Jeremiah has already been giving kisses.

My 10 year old son, Joseph helped me with this photoshoot.   (Yes that is where the name Josephine came from!)  He loves the little boys and got a big kick out of their HUGE feet.  Here are some pictures of all three boys!

Hanging out (check out the size of that foot!)

AWWW...can't leave one behind!

I believe it is 7 weeks old, then you have to wait 3 weeks before introducing to girls.  (He would need someone to keep him company while he was waiting!!)  Wink

Josie has her happy ending.  She has been spayed, her little boys have been neutered and all three are home at last with KoalaLou2 in South Carolina.   They have the best home EVER and I don't think we could have found a more perfect mama for Josephine and her boys!   Ratty Smiley Heart
