I was just wondering because i feel bad that i can't get my rats out everyday like i would always like to. I have almost no problems during the week but the weekends i work both jobs with long hours so i am really tired.  I have 3 groups of rats and each get at least 1 hour to 2 hours; the babies being very hipper normally stay out the longest. During that time i wipe down their cages, clean things up, give treats and play. They seem very happy, i have 2 groups spilt up in the FN and Take all of the younger babies other than the new fosters who today  have been here for a week so i moved them into my room. My question is how much time do you normally have play time? HOw often? Should i be doing it more? Less?  It should be easier because 6 babies are going to their homes this week and mia can be re introduced into the  main group. Thanks, i just want to make sure i get the right about of out of cage time, i knew someone who never let them out and have a friend who does free time every day, is between the two okay?

I currently have three groups of rats myself, two groups of boys that cant be introduced because of my Roscoe boy ( he's too aggressive lately, he's getting neutered soon , but everyone else has had great intros, so they get to play but not live together) and one group of foster girls. Here's what I do, first thing I do is let Roscoe out for about half an hour (since he cant join group playtime), then let the rest of the boys out for about two hours so they can play together and have interaction with me, put them back, let Roscoe out for about half an hour, then put him back, let the girls out to play for two hours, then bring out my new boy, Rizzo for one on one time for about another hour. If I have more time, then the girls get to come back out, since they are much more active then the boys, and go stir crazy in their cage MUCH faster. All together, my rats each get about 1-2 hours out every night, more on the weekends, when they pretty much do shifts of 3-4 hours out of their cages.  Some nights, I just do not have the time due to having to work late, those nights I do boys one night, girls the next. Both ways have worked great for me. Really, it sounds like you are doing great considering how busy you sound.

I do my best really i do, i work 2 main jobs and than clean for a free lesson for the barn owner so i can ride horses which is kinda like a 3rd job. Some days i work from 8am till 10 pm and as much as i would love to let everyone out to play, i use my bed as my playtime area and i have to take Everything off sheets and all because my girls destroyed my last sheets.  I think i am going to try to have at least one group out on the days that i am really busy and tired because no matter how tired i am i normally am on line for an hour till i go to bed i guess I'll just have to start letting them out when i do that. Thanks for the information
