Right now I have my five girls in a rat manor. I realize the cage is to small, but the littlest babies are only 6 weeks old. In the next couple of weeks I will be getting them a bigger cage (and perhaps conning my mother into helping me fund this project, since its her fault I have five rats;) ) I am currently debating getting the super pet cage, but I thought that cage was only big enough for four rats. I have not looked on ferret nation, or the martins website, because honestly, I'm not sure what to look for in a bigger cage for my girls. My girls seem to fit comfortably for now in their rat manor right now, but one the babies begin to grow a bit more, they will be overcrowded  Blue Dumbo Big Eyes

A Martin's Rat Skyscraper (R-695) or a Ruud would be good I think. I have 3 girls in a Martin's Rat Tower and the Skyscraper is the next size up from that... Personally I'm holding out for the "Critter Nation" to come out!

I am wondering if that cage is ever going to come out Angry

I bought a cage for my two boys from ZooPlus which they love, the rat cage calculator (found on many websites) say I can keep upto 5 rats in the cage, I think it would be ok for 4 max, especially big bucks....

However, people on the website have put the two together........just a thought good luck with the new build!

I think the Martin's 695 would be good (get the flip top!) or a FN (even just the 141, one level would be fine I think, but the larger one would still be nice). The only problem with the FN is that you would have to modify it with mesh to keep the little girls in. The thing I don't like about other similarly sized cages (such as the SP exotics cage) is that even though the cage itself is big, the shelves aren't, so you really don't have them much floor space.

I have a very tight budget so I searched alot of classifieds and found a 3 level cage with great dimensions. You don't necessarily have to buy brand new - keep that in mind! A little bit of elbow grease and possible some hardware cloth/zipties won't hurt. Smiley My cage is coming from a past rat owner who is delighted my furkids will enjoy it.

Another suggestion is to make one!! We made a Grotto style cage that cost us only 30$!!! We took a bookshelf we had, used some scrap wood lying around to make doors. Had some welded wire that we used to cage in the doors. cut holes in shelves, placed shelf liner down for easy cleanup, added some ladders and Voila!! Blue Dumbo Smile the one we made can house 8+ Rats!

I know of people who have that many in the SP exotics cage. Did you check the cage calculator? I think I remember it saying 4 rats in that cage (I have that cage as well, I have 2 males in it). You *might* be able to get away with putting 5 females in it. 50 bucks is a decent deal!

Where do you live?  I have some cages but doubt that we live anywhere near each other.

I'm in Maryland, but thanks for the offer Smiley Right now my ladies are in a rat manor, and the baby girls are now eight weeks and getting bigger, so I can't put off a new cage for much longer. I will look on kijiji I have never heard of that site Smiley

I actually talked the person down to $35 dollars for the sp exotics  Cheeky And it was only used for a few days (supposedly XD).

I would definately snatch up that SP exotics cage.  It really is a good cage.  Perfect spacing.  You have to wipe down the shelves because of the little indent on them but still worth it.

I currently have to do that with my bunny's cage, they have a much larger Super Pet cage, so it isn't an issue. I'm excited at the prospect of this cage, although it doesn't come with a wheel or anything (the person doesn't have one), that is okay, because I have on that attaches to the side of the cage...and then I will have an extra rat manor, its perfect  Cheeky
