Now that my ferret nation is no longer being used by rats I decided to copy another forum member on another forum and modify my cage for the hedgehogs. It took a while to do because I had to dismantle the cage, clean the rat pee and dirt off of it, lug it upstairs, and then reassemble and modify it. It was well worth the effort though. Takes no time at all to clean, even less time for daily maintenance, and it's so cute!

NOTE:
I guess technically this isn't a rat-related post, but since this used to be the rats cage, I figured it would be ok to put it here anyway....

This is the full wall of my home office. The tote is Ben's temporary cage... his new one is arriving at my house momentarily and will be assembled tomorrow.

What did you used to cover up those grids? I have tons of those, but I couldn't figure out how to keep stuff from falling through.

I used the same rubbery-plastic placemats that I used to weave through the lower parts of the cage.... I bought way too many of them so I just cut them to size and figured I would put them to use. Looks nice and works well! I love the dollar store.

The placemats around the edge is so creative! I wonder if that would work for the people who want to use bedding in their FN instead of buying pans? They'd be easy enough to replace if they got chewed too much.

That's very pretty.  Lips Sealed   I've actually seen the original done like that, it's an awesome idea.  Smiley

I was thinking about doing the place mat part of it around the bottom to help minimize the amount of rat food being thrown on my floor. Getting up first thing in the morning and stepping on a hard pasta really hurts.  Yellow Cute Laugh

I just wanted to add that I took the pans out of the bottom of the cage and cut sheets of coroplast to fit snug into the frame. Very easy to wipe up and no holes for anything to fall out.
