Cage for a Lone Male?

I'm trying to decide on a new cage to buy for my lone male rat, but really unsure of what one to get. I want him to be comfortable with lots of room, but I also don't want another cage thats going to take up a whole section of my room.    Any suggestions? What cages work well with just one rat? I've never really had to keep a rat alone full time before, so I'm not really sure what cages would be acceptable. 


Note: I don't normally keep rats alone. In fact, I REFUSE to keep rats alone unless it's absolutely necessary. Rex was friendly when he was a baby, but the older he got, the more aggressive he got. He was constantly fighting with his brother up before he died. I tried to introduce him to my two spayed females, but no luck with that either. He became really aggressive towards them as well. He's been living in the bottom half of my FN, while the two females live in the top half. I've been having really bad GGMR, but I dont want to keep rex in the bottom half, with new unaltered females in the top half. So, this is why I've decided to move him to a new cage.. Just need to decide which one to get.

I have a Super Pet for Exotics right now with one guy in it (who will be introduced to my other guys), and it seems a good size.  Just wondering if your guy is neutered?  That can help a HUGE amount with aggression.

I have a Super Pet for Exotics right now with one guy in it (who will be introduced to my other guys), and it seems a good size. 

I'm also needing a cage for a lone aggressive mail.  Can you tell me a bit more about the Super Pet for Exotics?  Do you know if the wire is galvanized underneath the coating?  My guy likes to chew the coating off bars, and I'm wanting something that won't start to rust once it's chewed.  Also, those doors look soooo small.  Is it hard to clean?  I notice it is made up of two panels on the front.  Do you think one of those front panels could be left unhooked so it could open up for cleaning (then maybe after cleaning closed just with cable ties or wire)?

Is there a difference between PVC coating, and powder-coating?  If so, which one is best and why?  How is the SP Exotics coated?  Is the gauge of the wire as thick and sturdy as the wire on a Martins?  Are the Martins cages galvanized underneath the coating?

Wow...a lot of questions!  Um...I have no idea what's under the coating.  The doors are very small, which is one thing I don't like.  I got it at Petsmart because I had possible rescues coming and I needed a cage ASAP.  One thing I also don't like is that it doesn't have a full floor, just partial shelves.  And those shelves have what is know as the "river of pee" around the edge.  They shelves do come out for easy cleaning, though, which is possibly easier than cleaning a cage where the floors and shelves are all wire.  You might be able to leave the bottom half of the front unhooked, and then lift it up for cleaning, but it's not that much of a pain to just lift the top off to clean the base.  There is a difference between PVC and powder coating, but I don't know what it is.

How do you like the SPExotics compared to other cages you have had?

I find it a little easier to clean than the Martin's, but the Martin's gives them whole floor above the pan, plus balconies.  The FN is my all time favorite.

Myrhme, if you have this many questions about cages, perhaps you should start your own thread rather than asking all your questions in Leslie Marie's thread.

I'll probably have him neutered in the near future, but I'll be buying a new cage either way just in case it doesn't help. 
I don't mind if anyone asks questions about the cages suggested. Saves me from doing it. LOL

hmm.. I was thinking about just getting a Ferret Nation 141 instead. Since I'm so used to the FN already. He's big enough that I wouldn't have to modify it. And if having him neutered DID help, I could just modify it and attach it to the FN 142 I already have in one way or another. 
Takes up more space then I was hoping for, but I'm really just too addicted to the FNs.    haha
