Bald is beautiful!

« on: June 22, 2008, 06:03:22 PM »

I made an omelette and have some leftovers that I was thinking of sharing with the ratties. Only thing I'm worried about is that I put banana peppers in the omelette. They aren't on the forbidden foods list...but I'm worried about they spicey-ness. Does anyone know if spicey foods are ok for ratties?

are these fresh or pickled? Ive never had fresh, but even the "hot" banana peppers Ive had are not spicy. more sweet than anything. I wouldn't think they are too spicy, but thats just me.  As for if "spicy foods" are ok, I am not sure.

I am going to say a little bit (very little..) of a spicy food is okay. Just don't go overboard, or you may have rattys with spicy bums passing spicy poos that burn..which I can imagine isn't very comfortable..

Some rats like spicy foods... but I generally avoid giving hot stuff. Not because they cannot eat it, but because of the aforementioned gastrointestinal ...errr.... "replay" that spicy foods do on us mammals.

Pickled banana peppers are safe but not the best choice for a big portion because of the additives/sodium, etc.. Probably OK if part of an omelet tho'  --

I know your rats are saying -- "enough with the thinking -- give us the omelet!"  Cheeky

Yes, they were pickled banana peppers. I ended up just picking out what I could, because I left the rings whole. That way the flavor was still there, but it wasn't nearly as spicey. They seemed to enjoy it!  Grin And no change in poo color/density/smell afterwards.

I have fed them to my rats before. One rat loves them, the other can't stand them, so it's a matter of personal preference, but it should be fine.
