Where to buy meds online?
«

I love my vet, but the pharmacy part of his buisness leaves a little to be desired. I'm frustraited with overpaying dispensing fees for meds and accidently being given the wrong amount and having to pay again for meds that should have already been in my possession *headdesk* He also doesn't sell liquid baytril and instead crushes the pills into solution, which doesn't last long, so I have to pay more dispensing fees.
To get them, I just ask my vet for the prescription?
I've heard that many of the online med companies are great. What ones do people recommend? I've read some bad reviews of 1800PETMEDS and am now a little wary. Maybe that was just a fluke for that person?
EDIT TO ADD: I'm not looking to get drugs without my Vet, I am just looking into options for a pharmacy to get my prescription filled at.

Maybe ask your vet for the prescription and then go to another vet to get it filled? Can they do that? I didn't know vets even really wrote prescriptions since mine always just gives me the meds (in a bottle with the animal's name, but i never get a paper scrip.)

I've thought of that but so far many vets don't fill prescriptions other than their own. I'm also limited due to lack of a car, so the only vets I can get to are those on the bus route (there's a few of them though). Thank you for the suggestion though!
I was a little upset to learn during my search that calcium interferes with doxy, which is something I specifically asked about and the pharmacy said that giving it with dairy is fine. I'm more than a little annoyed and will probably lodge a complaint, because that's probably why my critters got better and then got worse; half of the meds were inactivated, which resulted in them having to be on it longer. My rats favorite treat is goat-cheese and it's the only thing I've found so far that the half-wilds will accept easily. The giving me the wrong amount was bad enough, but instructing me that it's perfectly fine to give with dairy is inexcusable, if the tech didn't know she should have looked it up on the original bottle.
Thus, what should have been a ~60 dollar treatment has become a nightmare and my wallet is suffering. I'm already around 120, and they look like they need to be back on doxy/baytril for another course. The vet himself is great, it's the tech that made all of these mistakes. I was nice about the first one, but I'm very frustrated at this point.

I'd make it clear that I expected the second round free after that :/
Have you ever tried any soy-based fake cheese spread? My pets all love the soft cheeses for medicine too but maybe try something imitation?

You could also check with one of the big box stores like Wal*Mart for meds. Some of the meds my dog is taking is actually a human medication as well and I get it for 4.00. At the vet it is 13.00

I haven't used anywhere personally, but you can do a google search for "buy baytril injectable" and it turns up lots of different stores.
From a quick google search:
http://www.discountpetmedicines.com/baytril/injectable-solution.htm
http://www.petrx.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=620
http://www.kvvet.com/KVVet/productr.asp?pf_id=R30901&RefCode=Froogle&URLCheck=1
http://www.heartlandvetsupply.com/cart/product_info.php?products_id=212
http://www.vetmeddirect.com/Baytril-Rx-Injectable-227-mgml-x-20-ml--pr--012BAYBA20IN?utm_source=google_base&utm_medium=cpc
& there are more sites!

Is the injectible the same kind that can be given orally? That was something that confused me greatly.
I had looked around online, but it's very difficult to sort through the good and bad ones. Some are scams, where they send the meds from overseas. I'd rather hear which ones goosemoosers have tried so that I can be more confident about an order. I know people have done it and I've seen it recommended before, I just can't seem to dig up the right threads that I am thinking of.

Yes, you give the injectable orally.
It is very bad tasting. I have always done the injectable baytril mixed 50/50 with strawberry nesquik.
I know scout has purchased baytril online (search for scout's posts) but scout always purchased the $100 bottle which unless you have a huge colony of rats would be quite wasteful.

www.vetmeddirect.com
and yes, I did by the baytril 100 (100 ml of the 10% stuff because I had as many as 50 rats at one time). They also have the smaller quantities. I found it a very good place to work with and my vet could just phone in my prescription. If you order online, there's an opportunity to add notes to your order and I always included my vet's name and phone number. You can also get Ivermectin (more than you'll ever need, but cheaper than a vet visit) and some other meds.
For meds like amoxicillin, tetracycline, TMS definitely check out the pediatric formulations at the pharmacies that participate in the $4 plan like Walmart, Target, Costco, etc.
Zithromax can be purchased from a pharmacy in powder form. Have the pharmacy split it for you into 3 parts, then reconstitute only one part at a time as it only lasts 2 weeks once reconstituted. At my local Walgreens, it was a fight to get them to do this, but others have had much more success getting pharmacists to help them with dispensing the med.
