I think it should be ok to handle them.  Just curious, what did you get for a playpen?

That's is what I meant.  I am looking for some sort of playpen to keep mine confined a little when out.  I can't rat proof a room for them and mine jumps out of the playpen we made. LOL.  Little escape artist!

That may be my next investment!  I bought a sheet of hardboard from home depot and my husband made slits on the sides so they slide together.  It makes a cool playpen, 48x48x24.  Perfect size but 1 of mine jumps to the top.  I don't know if she would jump totally out but I think she would.  My kids are afraid she'll escape and become a cat toy so they flip out everytime she is in there. LOL!

I have a Grrreat Wall, which I love, but my younger guys are only happy in there if I'm in there with them.  If I'm on the outside, they jump out trying to get to me.

Yeah- my rat, pipsqueak, jumps like crazy. We can't ever play in the tub or anything, because she'll leap right out in a flash. I took a look at the Grrreat Wall thing, and it looks way too short for her, crazy girl. 20" high? For Pipsqueak, I'm thinking we'd need something closer to 4foot walls!

They would climb out of that in just a minute LOL!  I have a playpen that in 2ft tall and they can jump out when they want.

Thanks shellbell  Smiley

So it seems like the best idea for rat playtime + unwanted escapes = a pen with some sort of mesh covering. Has anyone made anything? I'd love to see pictures.
