What are some safe plants to use in a digging box?

My girls seem to really love the potted plant on my table. I watch them really closely to make sure they don't nibble the leaves in case they are toxic, but they seem to know they're not edible... I've read a little about digging boxes and  want to plant them a bigger pot of their own with safe plants in it so they can romp freely. Also, this might be a stupid question, but, what is meant by sterile soil? I know soil with fertilizer is bad, but all healthy soil has some bacteria in it.... How would you go about buying sterilized soil, or sterilizing it yourself?

I think sunflower seeds would be nice.
Maybe you should ask Dapper Rat herself, she started the digging boxes, and will have many ideas
heres whats on her site:http://www.dapper.com.au/toys.htm#diggingbox

Im pretty sure sterile soil means, not used, no bad bacteria/insecticides/pesticides,etc.
I dont think you can sterilize it yoyrself.

If you get organic soil from a garden store it should be a bit safer.

I think that you spread the soil on a cookie sheet and bake it in the oven to sterilize it.

Does the Dapper rat lady herself, Robyn I think her name is, have an account on Goosemoose?
