We got some practice golf balls- they have holes in them and are lightweight plastic and look like mini wiffle balls.

Our one rat has been furiously carrying all of them in his mouth to the one corner of the cage, where he proceeds to stack them- two on the bottom and one on the top and he gets very frustrated when one of the other rats tries to mess up his perfect pyramid.

We've also got a PVC pipe connecting the two cage areas, and heve been stuffing the balls in the one end of the pipe.  Bailey likes to rev up at the other end and puuuuuuuuuuuuush all of them out at once, and then he goes back to starting position and does it all over again.

I freaking love these balls!

We get those at the Dollar Tree, ratatatatat.

I LOVE to see ratties carrying them around, too cute.

The PVC pipe + balls sounds so cute! You must get photos and/or video!

My rats love those!  Plus, since there's not a bell-thing inside like cat toys, they don't rust and have to be thrown out.  I just toss them in the tub with the other stuff when I'm cleaning.  You can also take some yarn and tie one to dangle from the top of the cage at rat-eye level.  Mine want to stash the ball in the food dish, so the hanging one drives them nuts.

I'll get some pics- It's 3:30 am and Doof is ferrying them through the pipe as I type.

We got ours at Target, but you can buy them at any sporting goods store.
