All is one, one is all.

« on: June 27, 2008, 11:03:32 AM »

I've been trying out lots of different beddings, but I can't find one that I like.  I used Carefresh for a while, but it's really expensive.  Yesterday's News and SoftSorbent have a lot of dust for me and my ratlings.  Fabric is okay, but they pull it up and it gets stinky very fast, as my ratties aren't litter trained.  I'm kind of at my wit's end.  Does anyone know of a good bedding that I haven't tried yet?  What's your favorite bedding?

Thanks guys!

I really like my aspen bedding.  I can get it at the Tractor Supply Company (www.tractorsupply.com) quite cheaply.  It doesn't have the phenols like pine and cedar.  It is fairly absorbent, too.  The only problem is that it sticks to my socks and gets tracked all over the house.

I personally don't have a preference, but my rats decided they like alfalfa pellets.  Not terribly dusty, smells good and its cheap, about $10 for 50#.

Well, I bought a small bag of CritterCare to tide us over because the stinky blankets are driving me crazy, so we'll see how it works.  I haven't tried the Aspen, Kendra - sounds like it'd be worth a try!  I LOVE Tractor Supply!   Grin

I personally hate Aspen. Yes it is good at absorbing odors, but the dang stuff gets EVERYwhere!! My ratties live in my room, and when I was using aspen, even other family members complained about the aspen getting tracked all over the place. But if you can find some way around that, I will admit it is much better odor and dust-wise than say Carefresh. I actually just use fleece and flannel receiving blankets from the baby aisle at the dollar store, and Yesterday's News in their litter pans. I love it, and it's mess-free. Well anyway, good luck to you, hope you find something that works for you and your ratties!

Never heard of crittercare... It might be worth the slightly longer drive to WalMart to check it out if its cheaper, especially if its made by the same company as carefresh. Cool!

They have the colors too I think pink and blue. Walmart is selling a soft sorbent type now also, but to me it's kind of expensive for a little bag.

From the amount of times I have posted in support of the Sunseed Fresh World bedding (there seems to be a LOT of bedding posts lately), one might think I work for the company...but I don't!  This is seriously a great bedding...it stays put fairly well, doesn't stick to everything if it does get flung, and does an amazing job at keeping cages odor free.  Give it a try!  Ratty Smiley Blue Dumbo Smile

I would love to try the Sunseed bedding!  My petsmart doesn't carry it and the shipping is crazy.  For a $10 bag, the shipping is also like $10.  I wish my petsmart carried it.  I can't find it anywhere near me. Undecided

It works really well in rabbit litter pans too esp with the odor I always mix more baking soda in it for my buns. I do like soft sorbent though for me I haven't seen any dust with it and it keeps the odor at bay just like the sunseed.

The Sunseed is pricey, but I justify it with the knowledge that my cages can go almost twice as long (my ratties are fairly potty trained) than with aspen or other bedding before changing it out.
That's a bummer that some Petsmarts don't carry it, though I imagine they'll probably all have it before too long.
