so, I have a champagne rat with black eyes. He has some characteristics that seem to be associated with PEWs, from what I've read...
he sways his head back and forth, like he has bad eyesight
and
he had a tiny bit of poriphryn (sp?) at the edge of one of his eyes.

Is it normal for him to have this? He has PEW siblings as well...

Could it be possible his eyes are ruby?  I have several light beige rats that have ruby eyes, and in some lighting, they look so dark that they are black.  Ruby-eyed rats don't have as poor of vision as PEW's, but they do the head sway.  :3  It's not a big deal unless it seems excessive.

The poriphin (I can't spell it either!) could be from just waking up, maybe?  In small amounts, it's not a big deal.  If it's accompanied by sneezing or any other signs of illness, you may want to have a vet check him out.  Don't think it's connected to eyesight though.
