I've been thinking about getting my boys neutered. I was just wondering how old they should be (they're just a week or two under 2 months now) and a rough approximation of how much it will cost? I don't want to do it unless it can come out of my clothing/me stuff money. I'm not going to use my vet money for it.

Prices range all over the map, from under $100 (US) to several hundred. It all depends on your vet. Males can be neutered as young as 4-6 weeks, but most vets prefer to wait until they're larger. So again, it depends on your vet. From the experiences people have had here, I think it pays to call around to find someone who has both experience with neuters and has a reasonable fee.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll phone around, but I think there's only one rat savvy vet in the area :-/ I can always go out of town too though..

Definitely call around.  I helped my MIL find someone to neuter her boy and got so many different price ranges.  We found one who charged right around $100 and only $30 for the preneuter appointment.  She hadn't done many neuters but was very thorough in her research and spent a lot of time making sure everything was just right (she even postponed it because she didn't feel he was trusting enough yet because he was a new rescue and scared of people).  He came through the neuter with flying colors and she did a post-op appointment for free to make sure it was healing properly. 
So get an idea of what the initial price is as well as the other associated costs.  And also the vet's experience and willingness to listen to you and be thorough.
