I will be getting some money pretty soon and I am very very interested in getting a Ferret Nation cage.  I currently have 3 males.  I was wondering how often you guys switch out all your bedding (hammocks etc) when you have it super decorated.  I have two boys which are not good about using litter boxes, is that going to make the FN difficult for me to use and clean?

I do a full cleaning every 3-4 days. I have 10 boys in my FN. Most of my boys use the litter boox. I have 2 that dont. So I just use a baby wipe and pick up the poop on the fleece once a day. I love the FN.

I clean mine completely every 4 - 7 days, depending on how messy it gets. My rats are pretty good about using litter boxes, so it often stays clean. xD I know that when they stop using the litter box, means I've waited to long to clean the liter in it! haha.

I actually dont change the hammocks too often.  Embarrassed My rats pretty much *dont* use their hammocks, and often times the remain untouched at all, so they never even get soild or dirty. They're just kind of.. there.  Yellow Cute Laugh

I have two boys as well.

I clean my boys (spot clean with the vaccum) every day and do a full clean every two weeks.

I have 6 boys and I clean the cage every three or four days, full liner change along with cuddle blankies. The hammies are pulled once a week, sometimes twice. That really depends on how much marinating they do . I also do spot cleaning every day.

I hardly ever do my hammocks.. The boys don't go in them unless I shove them in. Silly boys.

I really hope the new boys like them.  Worry

My boys LOVE LOVE hammocks. They try to get in them when we are taking them down, putting them up. Its hilarious Blue Dumbo Smile

I have 8 boys in one FN and 7 girls in my other FN. I change the towels on the floors and shelves out every 3-4 days. Then, I clean and wipe down the entire cage (and remove hammocks) every 7 days. Things stay pretty clean:)

I spot clean every day by picking up poop that doesn't make it in the litter box. If they've begun to chew towels or hammocks, I take those out and replace them. Other than that, I replace all the towels ad hammies and wipe everything down once a week. I think if you only have 3 boys in the entire FN, you'll find it doesn't get dirty too quickly. The FN is BIG, and even the most mischievious 3 rats couldn't dirty it up too quickly.

I usually do a complete cleaning of my cage about every 3-4 days.  My guys aren't good about using the litter pan and strew their raisins everywhere.   Roll Eyes  I have a FN 142, and it seems like they spend most of their time on the top section of it, especially on the shelf.  Also, they're pretty bad about marinading the cube on the top shelf, so I usually have to change the fleece and the cube about every other day.  It's so easy to clean the FN though, and I really love the cage.

I have 4 boys in a FN 141. They only use their litter box about 25% of the time.  So I pick up poops 1 - 2 times a day. It's really easy to do if you stick your hand inside a cheap plastic baggie and use it as a glove. And then wipe down toys w/ baby wipes as needed. The liners come out every 3 - 4 days and I wipe down the floors and toys at that time. The hammocks get replaced about once a week. The boys use them lots, but luckily don't marinate much.

If you don't plan on getting too many more ratties you could go w/ a 141. Then you won't have as much stuff to pull out and clean all the time.

I change the fleece twice a week and wash the cage with wipes and towels once a week. I take the shelves and ramps and all the toys and wash them in the sink/tub. I use carefresh or soft-sorbent in my litter pans. They don't always use the pan so I just use a paper towel to pick up the strays. And vacuum every other day around the cage

I have 2 boys in a 2 level.  I spot clean throughout the week.  I do a thorough cleaning once a week.  Usually, by day 6 or 7, I can start to smell them.

My boys can stink up a cage real fast..lol..and I only have 2.

What I do is when they're playing outside of the cage I dust vac it.  I have a dust vac just for that because it WILL get nasty and has to be emptied every time.

Do you use bedding now?  Because of the shallow pan in the FN we're going to modify ours a little bit.  We went to home depot and bought 2 pieces of some kind of siding stuff...I honestly forget what it was, but really anything that is in a wide strip that can be cut easily.  We're just going to cut it to fit the doors and all around then ziptie it so they can't throw the litter all over the place.

I could never get my boys full litter trained so I just kind of forgot about it.  The fleece does get funky.

I have a 142 with five girls in it and I only clean once a week. They are litter trained and on fleece. I change the fleece and wipe down the liners and shelves and that's pretty much it. The hammocks are used a lot so I wash those as well. If you have about 4 different sets of liners and a bunch of hammocks, cleaning is a breeze  Grin
