I looked in the section on Vet recommendations and there weren't any for IL.  I have taken my rats to 2 different vets for respiratory infections, however, I have not really liked either one of them.  One of my rats, Ralphie, needs to have his teeth trimmed.  I'm not comfortable having either one of these vets take care of it.  Can anyone recommend a vet in the Naperville/Plainfield area?  I'm willing to drive, if needed.

I noticed that Ralphie wasn't eating much, then the porphyrin around his eyes.  It looks like he is crying red blood.  I looked at his teeth and they look long, both top and bottom and the bottom ones are not in line with the top.  I've started feeding soft mushy foods and will take him to the vet asap.  I just need to find a good one.

Does anyone have any experience with teeth trimming?  Is this something that will have to be done on a regular basis?  If so, how often?  Anything else that I should know?

Thanks,

Tricia

There are a few fantastic vets in the Naperville area. Naperville Animal Hospital is good and pretty well priced, its on Ogden Ave. My absolute favorite is Ness Exotic Wellness Center on Maple just past the 34 intersection. They deal exclusively with exotics and they're just fantastic people.

Sorry I don't know if this helps... I have a fantastic vet but she is in Park Ridge which is probably about 40 minutes from Naperville. Dr. Lisewski is at Touhy Animal Hospital in Park Ridge.
It is about 30 minutes away from me but she is really great so I don't mind the travel. I've taken all my pets to her for years including dogs, cats, ferrets, hamsters, rats, rabbits, guinea pig etc... She did surgery on one of my rats Kei (tumor removal) and treated my rat Cara for pneumonia/respiratory infection (and treated my rats for other things in the past). She is really good with rats as well as other animals.

Thank You!  Thank You!  Thank You!  I couldn't get in to Ness Exotics, but I did get them both in at Naperville Animal Hospital.  I ended up taking them both, just so that Ralphie wouldn't be alone.  Anyway, they did a thorough exam on both of them.  They were absolutely awesome.  It wasn't Ralphie's teeth, he has an URI.  I was shocked.  He hasn't had any wheezing or sneezing and I thought his teeth looked a little overgrown, but apparently not.  Anyway, they put them both on baytril and doxy.  Hopefully, he will get better quickly.

We saw Dr. Roney.  Dr. Fox was in surgery all day, so they had me see her.  I liked her and I thought that she seemed to know what she was talking about.  She absolutely loves rats.  She wants to see both of them back in 14 days to make sure everything is clearing up.  I'm so glad that I have a vet that I can trust with them.  Thank you again!!

Ooh yeah, I haven't seen Roney personally, but I've heard she's fantastic. I'm glad everything worked out for you!
