Yes, its true, my boys hate hammocks.  Roll Eyes

I don't know what to do.. -sigh- There is only one hammock that Jynxie will go in. Thats the green and cow print cube from wonderrodent. Jasper refuses to go in any.. Ive tried wonderrodents, Scubbs, and my own (crochet). I have tried sticking them in... nothing.. Regular hammocks, cubes, a snake, an envelope...

Any suggestions?

Am I the only one with rats that don't like hammocks?

I'm really hoping my new boys will like hammocks.. Im going to have them all in the double double ferret nation and its going to be seriously boring if I can't put hammocks in it.

My two newest rats didn't realize what to do with hammocks until they were put with my older boys who already used them... I used to put them in the hammock when I'd put them back in their cage, just so they understood they could use it... but I don't know any other tips.. these two guys still aren't too keen on them, but will occasionally sleep in them. One prefers an igloo, and the other loves this little shower caddy shelf we have for him...

My rats used to LOVE hammocks and couldn't get enough of them. But the past few months, they refuse to use them and I dont know why. xD I've had the same hammocks hanging in there for a good few weeks now, and they have still gone untouched.   Lips Sealed

I have 4 cages of ratties....2 in each, for reasons....unsociable with other ratties, males, unneutered, un netered females, etc. 2 are fosters.
The fosters chew hammocks.  the minute I put them up, they get right up and chew off however they are attached, doesn't matter if its a zip tie, they chew it, if its got a metal eyelet, and metal curtain hook, they chew the fabric.
2 others apparently never knew what they were, after a week, they found out they were to lay in and love them, and the other 2 cages love them, and never have chewed them.  all depends on the rattie I guess.

My first two girlies who were from a petstore didn't even know what a hammock was! LOL
They eventually started to use it because everytime when I would put them back in their cage I would set them in the hammock. Eventually they would stay in it longer and longer each time. Now they use them for the most part.

That is pretty much what happened with my girls. I made a ton of hammocks and Sophie and Katie were like, ok, thanks, but...no thanks. I just kept putting them in, now all 5 girls sleep in the same one on top of one another Smiley

My friend actually had a pair of rats that refused to use their hammock. They'd just chew it down every time. It sounded so weird to me since all of my rats have only been total hammock hogs!

My guys like hammocks, but they also are like sleeping:

-On TOP of their igloo (never in it)
-In the litter box
-On their tile
-On the shelves (covered in towel/fleece)
-In their PVC pipe

They seem to like certain hammocks better. Those honey comb (Originally Mainly Rat Rescue's design, I can't afford to buy hammocks so I make my own) ones usually get one of them in each level, double decker styles get one or both, and cubes usually have them sleeping on top. They don't seem to like plain, square hammocks though, I guess there isn't enough support.

My girls have gone off sleeping in there hammocks to the point that i dont even put them in anymore. When i did put them in they would be chewed down by the next morning and the fabric stuffed in there house. So now i just put the fleece squares all over the cage and they will collect them and put them where they want.

Ian used to never use his hammock until i spread it out more in his new cage. in the temp. one it was hung more like a basket...thing with the snaps close together and he didn't like it like that. once i had more room in the sp cage i spread it out more and now he's awlays in it xD

My boys don't hate hammocks, but they definantly don't prefer them! Here's my suggestion:

Their favorite places are the 'helmet hut' and any of the hanging 'pockets' or hats.Plus it's a really cheap way to decorate!Lots of my hubby's stuff he don't use hung up with safety pins! And,the ratties really feel macho in there!

My girls LOVE their hammies. They won't sleep anywhere but in their hammock, but my boys.. eh. They prefer to chew down their hammocks and stuff them in their hidey house and sleep on them in there. Weird nekkies. Lol

i think it's the placement of the hammock that my rats don't like.

for the longest time my girls would not move from their hammock, then I took out the hammock and stuck a little basket in place of it, now they won't move from that. I put a corner hammock on the other side of their cage that they don't use, but i'm sure if I removed the basket and put the new hammock there they would stay in it for sure.
