From what I remember... the seeds are carcinogenic.

Don't quote me though

It was so hard not to hit the quote button Smiley

I am glad I asked, just in case. I just thought maybe I didn't have to toss out the core.

Can anything use it? Is it good for anything? We don't compost or anything tho.

Hahaha  Grin stinker

Umm other than compost, I can't think of anything. I mean I'm sure you could smear it with peanut butter, sprinkle it with birdseed and hang it up in a tree (the pb might not stick). I'm sure some wild animal will eat it. What that wild animal would be... I have no clue  Yellow Cute Laugh

That sounds good but all of our neighbors hate the birds lol. I don't want to piss them off by attracting more. (I dunno what kind they are but they are LOUD in the early AM.)

Yeah apple seeds BAD. I swore they were more than just carcinogenic, but I can't find the info in my stuff. For some reason, word association makes my brain go "apples seeds = cyanide."

Your neighbors would HATE me... I'm the resident bird feeder around here... we have mallards that hang around, too... I love to feed "my" ducks. LOL! Sometimes, early in the morning, they sit out there, quacking away. Honestly, I love to wake up to that sound. Grin

So it's just the seeds right? Can I give them apple slices?

Apple slices are fine.  Apple cores - no good.  It's actually the seeds, they have cyanide in them.

In fact, if you take out the seeds, you could give them the core.  Smiley

Really? Clever. I'd worry I'd forget one though. I'll just toss it, we don't get apples that often so it's no biggie.

If it were me, I'd just cut out the middle bit with the seeds, and give them the rest of it.  Wink

Is it cyanide or arsenic?  Huh

Ah, just looked it up.  It's a version of cyanide, which is also in cherry and peach pits, among others.  Don't give your rats seeds or pits from anything, I'd say, to be on the safe side.

Yeah that seems to be another of those things that falls under the "if you won't eat it, don't give it to them".
