Apollo was my first male who just passed away suddenly. Romeo was a 5-6 week old baby when he first met Apollo and they hit it off right away. they were  neutered together and loved each other along with their roommate Sammy. He seems depressed when he isn't with me. His head sticks out of the FN  and just looks at me sadly. Today i was able to introduce  my young female group with the two lonely males. Romeo still has not been himself.

When one of my really-old guy pair died, the living one was pretty sad for a few days.  I'd gotten them both introduced to another male before Frank died, and that really helped, I think.  Now, Shamus is doing really good.  So I hope that Romeo will adjust and become happier..  I know with older rats they can sometimes have trouble adjusting to new rats after their companions die, but if he's still pretty young hopefully things will work out.

I agree... rats do go through a mourning period after losing one of their cagemates.  I think just keeping an eye on the remaining rats and making sure that they're continuing to eat and drink is the best thing you can do.  Hopefully after a few days, Romeo will bounce back to his happier self again.  Smiley  Keep us posted!
