 Huh

So when I saw my rat, Crash, bleeding from his genitals I automatically assumed it was an urinary tract infection and the vet prescribed Clavamox. Well, he's been taking it every day for a few weeks now and he's the same. It's only a small amount once in a while, but I have no idea what it could be... kidney problems? Cancer??
If so, how would I get my vet to find out for sure and what kind of meds would this require??

She's the only vet that will take rats and she's never run any tests.. she just pokes and prods then throws some meds my way.

Any suggestions on what this could be??

Maybe bladder stones or kidney stones. An x-ray may give you more information. Here's a link to 3 articles on renal/urinary stuff at the Rat Guide:

it could be bladder stones. they can be surgically removed, but depending on the age/ damage done sometimes the only option is to put them to sleep. We had a boy develop them at 6 months old, some rats are unfortunately prone to them, and can redevelop them. In our case we chose to pts as he was young, and it was felt he would just develop them again. Please  have your vet check for these as they are very painful.
