max: male, 3 years and 9 months old (45 months old) though now i have reason to suspect he was even older than that (i got him from a petstore and unlike what everyone is saying about petstore rats he was an excelent rat) , reason of death is most likely old age though his amonia he got when he was 2's was part of the reason too
stripe: male 2 years, PTS because of a rupture in his bloodcells in his nose which meant everytime he sneezed blood would spew from his nose atleast htat was the reason according to the vet

Monkie: Female, Black Dumbo Berkshire. 23 months (estimate). Pneumonia.
Angel: Female, Pink-eyed-white. 20 months (estimate). Intestinal Tumor.
Both girls were spayed before 8 months old and neither developed mammary tumors. They were both part of the rescue in Chicago in April, 2003. Monkie died waiting for the vet to call us back. Angel was PTS approximately 2 weeks later. She was suffering from dehydration and an inability to digest food as a result of the tumor.
Thankfully, they're survived by all their rattie friends, all 8 of them, ranging in age from 6 months to 2 years.

Olie: 20 September 2002 to 2 November 2004. Natural causes from complications of colon or rectal cancer. He was a happy and playful rat the morning he died, and I swear he didn't know he was sick.

Sqeaky...brown feeder rat 2 years...myco pnmonia...had to put down because of extreme suffering...he will be dearly missed...maybe someday we'll be together again and he will be able to ride my shoulder and snuggle.
Bubba Lui...3.5 years...inner ear infection caused by tumor...finally killed by kidney failure despite a shot 15 mins before of antibiotics...was dead when I came back with his dinner a minute later...it was his favorite...fat free and sodium free mac and cheese...god I loved him...
Chris...3 years...cause of death not fully known, had one seizure in my arms, unable to revive...my first rat who patiently taught me how to care for him...
I had more rats but most of them were young when I had to give them away...

Ratty Bumpo, male -- black hooded pet store rat, at 30 months, euthanized after severe weight loss, frailness, refusal to eat, and grand mal seizures for which I administered rectally a valium sedative. Probable cancer/ brain tumor. how I loved him,
my champion leaper (lifetime record = soaring 28 inches across open space, always for yogies).
Schmidty, male-- from breeder, dumbo rex , at 18 months. Cardiomyopathy, vet said-- couldn't pump enough blood to his lungs and breathed and wheezed badly his last year with us despite almost continuous antibiotics. X-rays showed enlarged heart. My kissiest and sweetest.

Cosmic (male PEW) died at 5 months, cause basically unknown, but thought to be either sudden pneumonia or heart failure, the vet wasn't positive and I didn't ask for a necropsy (sp?) Came very suddenly three days after his neuter.

I guess I should update...
Gordon - one day shy of 30 months, tumor in his throat, which prevented breathing, and eating. Was not discovered until after he was PTS.
Even though he was almost 2.5 years, he didn't look a day over a year old... the vet was shocked when I told her his age.
Elwyn - 30 months, 3 weeks, large benign tumor that led to anemia.
Walter - 34 months, 1 week, congestive heart failure
Albert - 34 months, 2 weeks.... broken heart.
None of the Barenaked Boyz ever had any respiratory issues. Kudos to jeannerat, and good breeding in that department.

Emmie- spayed pet shop girlie. Lived with us for exactly 1 year. Was only 1 year 4 months old. Died from respiratory complications. We found her dead in the cage.
