Cloud - male - 17 months - somewhat unknown complications on August 28, 2005. He had a lung mass that the vet was pretty sure wasn't a tumor. We were going to do a series to x-rays to track growth, or lack of growth, of mass, but he suddenly passed away the day before the first of the series was scheduled to take place. He had minor difficulty with breathing and was slightly lethargic at times, but had no other symptoms of illness. The week before he passed, he was more active and seemingly healthy than he had been since his first bout with a minor lung bacteria when he was about a year old.

Templeton-August 16, 2005 Lesions covering all lung tissue caused by corynebacterium. He was pts at vet's office, because she said he wouldn't make it and that we could possibly save my other 2 ratlets by knowing exactly what we were dealing with. He was1.5 years old and a rescue rat.

Hello, new to this forum
I am not the owner of a pet rat named Bo but I am am the grandma. I am trying to aid " Bo" back to health. Bo is my daughter's pet and she is 36 months old. Yes, can you believe it? She is in great health other than the benign mammory tumor that is growing. I contacted a vet and they want 150.00 to 300.00 to remove it. Well, sorry to say I don't have that kind of money. So I will report Bo at 36 months. and if anyone knows of any good herbal remedy to combat this decease please point me in the right direction. I am thinking that I am gaining so ground with this one but with her age I would like something fast other than surgery.

Snowball, albino, former lab rat, I had her for 49 months. She was at least 8 months old when I got her. Had the lid of her cage door collapse on her head. She didn't survive the night. She died in 1994.

Shalom (f)was born on May27th 2003. euthanized June 13th 2005. Although she would've lived longer if it hadn't been for an idiot pulling a prank with cigerrettes- goes the same for all my dead rats(I HATE HIM!) she died of a tumor on the neck.
Rainbow- she was just over 1years old, sist popped in lungs(lung tumors) Rainbow was a female.
Arwin unknown age also died of lung tumors.

Hello Everyone...I would like to say that i am sorry for all of your loses...seems you are all the best parents to our fuzzy little friends and they seem to pass away far too early....
But I am wondering I have a 3.5 month old PEW named Elvira and am a little worried as I have seen alot of TUMORS and CANCER on the lists of deaths here. As well as MYCO? What is MYCO and how would you tell if your rat had any of the things stated in this topic? I would hate to loose my little girl...
Please Help!

Well, I've had two reach the end here with me, so I will add them to the list.
Cherry - PEW from feeder bin, approximately 1.5 years, unknown causes
Faith - black irish, got her from an individual with accidental litter so likely petstore lines somewhere in there - PTS due to a tumor around her heart

Kupo, male, approximately 33 months old (he was a rescue, so I'm going with the estimated age that the veterinarian assigned him). Euthanized-- he was suffering recurrent aggressive, cancerous tumors, atrophy in his hindquarters, and neural damage in the same region.

growing up, we had a neighbor across the street whose rat lived to be about 7 (human) years old!
granted, by then he was scrawny, losing hit fur, had scabs, and could barely get around...but he was like the rat who refused to let go of life!

Wow all the rats on here sound so nice, cute, and loving!! i have one problem though, have you noticed that MOST of the rats have died of un-natural causes, not that it is the owner fault but really. i tell you, if people dont know how to breed rats out of health problems then they should never breed at all, sooner or later we will have no rats living over the age of 1.5 years. it is making me very sad!! my rat died at the age of 3 yrs and a couple weeks of natural causes.
