I went to the vet yesterday, with my new baby Uno, and my other sneezing one, Saba. My vet told me she went to this petstore (in the US) the other day, and that she was appalled at the living conditions of the animals.  She is very into reptiles and amphibians, and apparently, their care is very bad their too.  She said there were way too many animals per tank.  She found a snake in a tank, and the snake had been dead for so long that it had completely dried out.  She saw a frog with a broken back, and it was in acute distress.  She tried to have them let her take care of the frog, but they were too busy scrambling around trying to take care of the long-dead snake to listen to her.  She talked to the manager, telling him she was a vet, and he did nothing.  This is the same pet store in which I saw badly overheated rodents, hamsters and gerbils in the same cage, water bottles so close to the ground that no creature could drink from them, empty bottles in really hot tanks, pregnants animals, and wounded animals.  Their staff still picks up ratties by the tail and holds them like that, upside down.  I have written a letter to the manager, but nothing changed.
I am very disappointed.  Would calling theHumane Society help?  I don't even know how anything can help, when a vet going and talking to the manager has no effect.  I am truly disgusted.  How can staff be called knowledgeable about animals when they don't even notice their animals are TEXT?
Sorry to vent.

That TEXT was supposed to say "Dead."  I don't know why it was edited.  Perhaps because I highlighted it?

I haven't been in a Petco in about a year because of similar situations in my local store -- though not as bad as what you describe. Definitely report them to the Humane Society, and send a letter to their corporate headquarters, expressing your concerns (be sure to tell them which store). Have your vet do the same.

Unfortunately, with corporate-run chains, each store is different, based on the experience and overall attitude of the staff in that particular branch. Some are better, some are worse.

And if retail paid better, I bet a lot more knowledgable people would work there.

You need to type your text between the tags when you insert special attributes to the text. When you insert the tag "TEXT" is the default information between the tags so you know where to put your text.

You can also edit your posts at any time by clicking on "modify" in the  upper right.
