Why do rats LOVE popcorn? What is it that they like about it? My rats seem to eat it as soon as it's put in their cage!

With ours, I think at least part of it is the texture... they'll often eat around the remains of the kernel so that they can just get the nice puffy fluffy bits.  Considering that they love ALL kinds of popcorn, I think that texture thing must play a not insignificant role....

Okay, you see, that was just so cute that now I have to try to get one of our fuzzy boys to do that... and so he's going to have to eat a lot of popcorn... and he'll get all fat and squishy... and it'll be all your fault, Christy!

Oh wait... most folks don't mind squishy boys 'round here, hm?  Ratty Smiley

What an adorable picture. I do not think that is an easy question to answer....it would be like asking...why do so many people like popcorn.

My rats like anything that is tasty and fun to eat, and popcorn is both
That picture of the rat in the bag of popcorn is too familiar and cute! Ratty Smiley

I made the same comment once and someone replied that it's commercial seed corn that's bad for rats, not the kind sold to humans as food. Hopefully that's correct.  I haven't given my boys popcorn yet, but they do like to snatch Doritos out of my hand if I'm not paying attention.   Roll Eyes

It's the dry corn in the seed mixes everyone's worried about, because those can get moldy. Also corn can be hard to digest. Ground corn, ingredients in some lab blocks are ok and fresh corns are fine. Mine love corn on the cob too Smiley
