My boy Max is the quietest water bottle user in the world.  I think all of the other boys try to make as much noise as possible.  As I sit here on the computer, they're about 5 feet away.  I can hear Reilly banging away on his bottle, but then Max began sipping and I can't hear a thing!  If only ALL of them were like that, I could sleep at night!  Smiley

Geez, how nice! My five boys think they have to drink from the water bottle at the same time, so it's incredibly loud. lol. Ah well, I'm used to it by now  Tongue

Is that something rats do, use the water bottle at the
same time? I've noticed many times when Agatha is drinking, Millicent comes over and takes over. I just
thought Millicent was being pushy, but now I'm wondering if they just do that.
What do you think?

My girls like to drink together.  When I refill the bottle they all come ri\unning up to it and shove each other out of the way...  And, when one girl is drinking from it usually another will come up and start drinking too.

My three do the same thing. If one starts, the other two will. Atleast until Bouncer decides that he wants to drink alone (regardless of who started), and pushes the other two out of the way. It was so cute earlier today...he pushed the other two at the same time, and still drank at the same time. So cute!

I have 3 water bottles in my girls' cage, and they still fight. Once, I came over when they were doing it, and put one of the other bottles right next to them. All of them still wanted the same bottle.

Get a bottle without balls in the tube and you'll sleep.  They work pretty well, too.

I had one girl who drank without making any noise.  What she did was put her paw up on the sipper and pushed the ball back, and then she drank as the water dripped out.  The most amazing thing was that she taught it to her litter! Shocked  I have two of her daughters and they drink in the same manner as their dearly departed mom.

I have 2 quiet drinkers, but the other 6 more than make up for it.

Anyone who has their ratties in the bedroom, how do you sleep?
I've been using earplugs for a year now...

I think you get used to sleeping close to rats and the noise. I sleep about a foot away from my three, and only very rarely do I get woken up. I`m good at just going back to sleep, so the odd thump in the night is not a problem for me.

My four newbies like to all drink at the same time, too... I love it! They all start pushing each other down with their paws, and one will get enough that he'll sit there, just off to the side, until he's drunk it all, and then go back...

I have two bottles in the cage, now, because one wasn't working right. It's still not -- it's full, while the other one is almost empty. Looks like I am going shopping again... *sigh*

[edit because I am apparently typing with my toes this morning...]

Because my rats cage has solid sides the bottle has to be stuck on with suckers. And what do frisky babies climb? yup the water bottle which comes down with a BANG! and I need another water bottle still they haven`t chewed it yet so I should be thankful for small mercies!

I am exhausted this morning. Ive been keeping my friend's mouse in the bedroom away from the rats. She is the fattest little thing, but she runs on the wheel ALL NIGHT. Even after oiling it, I can still hear it because the weight is unbalanced. I had to put her cage in the hall to get some sleep.

I've seen rats do that before! It's amazing how smart they are!

I highly recommend Flat-Bac water bottles by Super Pet.  They're perfect for wire cages, as they are clip mounted on the exterior.

I use the Flat-Bac as well, but I've found that they can drip more than other brands.  And my rats always get squirted in the face when I put the full bottle into the clip Smiley

I have never had either of those problems with my Flat-Bacs... I have two of them. Right now, though, one of them seems to be clogged.

I had two flat backs as well.  But I ended up having one that leaked all the time.  Then the other one, the sipper got jammed and wouldn't let the water out!!

See now, I've always heard that Oasis were the worst offenders in the drip/leak department... they must have fixed the problem, then...  Grin

I have an Oasis that I like, but it has that crazy wire loop thing to hold it to the cage - that is CRAP!  I also have "All Living Things" - don't waste your money.  Use it to buy more yogies  Smiley

Howdy!

« Reply #23 on: April 23, 2002, 03:40:30 PM »

As for my girls, they love sharing a water bottle, and I have 2 of them, Jag usually drinks with her head upside down, no clue why. And they also push the ball back with their hand, but not  to drink, just to let it leak on their cage. I now have to put the water bottles on the less poopy floors. Water soaked rat raisins are GROSS to clean up! Tongue
