Bamboo

Hi all, ive just put a bamboo tube in with my two young females, they love it but im concerned that it may not be very good for them if they chew it.. its been treated with some kind of waterproofer and stinks a bit.. Its designed for pets..

reckon it should be okay? Is bamboo or the treatment likely to be harmful to rats in any way?

The thing to do would be find out what it has been treated with, i would remove it until i was sure it was safe.

not sure what it is.. like i say its a pet product but i know you can never tell.. im going to keep an eye on them i think until i can find out what its covered in..

An eye on them as in remove it or like leave it and see if they get sick?

I would remove it and maybe try calling up the company to find out what exactly they use to treat it. I don't trust pre-treated stuff for my rats at all so I personally wouldn't bother but if you really want to use it at least make sure it is safe.

I agree with Babyblue. Try to contact them, and find out what they treated it with. Express your concerns with them, as well.

I would take it out of there to be safe, especially because it smells. Rats have much more delicate respiratory systems than we do...
