I'm a llama!
Scent marking

I'm sure this has been asked hundreds of times before, but are there any suggestions for someone with male rats who *really* like to scent mark? In other words, leave copious, frequent urine trails on everything, including me? They're definitely scenting, rather than just wetting (I know now to avoid the latter by waiting for them to do their post-nap "tinkle" *before* they're let out of their cage), but I don't know why they continue to feel the need to scent me, after six solid months of bonding... *sigh* I've read that neutering can improve the situation, but my boys are total sweeties otherwise, and enthusiastic scent-marking alone hardly seems to warrant neutering...
Any advice?

Yeah definately evening showers. Also, if Scooter pees on me, I pick him up and say "No" firmly. He seems to understand this, and he used to get put back into his cage when he peed on me. They will slow down their peeing habits. You can tell if a rat is about to pee on you (usually), by seeing if he is: Licking your skin (they do this before marking), or sniffing your skin. They will usually pee on bare skin too. Hope I helped!

I never wear good clothes when I'm playing with my boys and I make sure my remote control is put away (their favorite thing to mark). Other than that, it's just part of having male rats and they make it up by being the sweet cuddly squishy rats that my girls aren't.
