Well, I just received this email about my vet.  He's the vet that Kim and I use for our ratties along with all the rescues.  Out of all places to find him, he was on a tv show on the Home and Garden Network and I was sent the bio.

My vet is famous again  Grin
I just wanted to share.  Oh yeah, we are in the boston area. Also, he's an experienced rat vet that has done numerous surgeries including neuters ($80), spays (think it's $100, dont quote me), and tumor removals (think it's $80).  Is this a shameless plug?  Wink
Anyways, I just had to brag about my vet Grin

He was just recently recommended to me!  I don't need to send my babies to the vet yet but I was looking for someone's name just in case!

But in 4 years, I'll be my babies vet!!

Is it just me?

I always take rats to the vet for a checkup within a week or two of getting them (or, in the case of babies, within a week of two of them opening their eyes).  I do the same thing for dogs, guinea pigs, etc.

Am I the only one?

I'm afraid to take my ratties to the vet.  I don't trust any of them to know anything about rats.  But I really want the assurance that my babies are okay.  Anyone have any good vet experiences in Phoenix, AZ?

yes, whenever my special little (neutered) boy would sniffle I would be on the phone with my vet.  He was my first real pet since my guinea pig 5 years ago. And I was a total freaked out mommy.  In the beginning, I was going there almost once a week.  When Kim and I started getting rats, I brought them to Dr. Mertz for the initially to check their health.
And I went to the RMCA vet recommendations (http://www.rmca.org/Resources/vetlists/azvets.htm)  and found this vet listed:
Dr. Garcia, D.V.M. and Dr. Saltzman, D.V.M.
Western Animal Hospital
5110 West Northern Avenue, Glendale AZ 85302
(623) 931-2668 (there's a description on the page about him)

Kate McCullough, D.V.M.
Camelwest Animal Hospital
5502 W. Camelback Rd. #1, Glendale, AZ 85301
(602) 934-1272

About vets in Phoenix.I can't say enough wonderful things about the vet i found off those same vet referrals.Dr.Kate McCullough at camelwest animal hospital. She has seen my four girls several times and each time has given me a price break, with the exception of the spays.Even without the price break i would never hesitate to reccomend her to a rat lover....altho i have yet to meet one,(other then my vet) in person....only online.Any questions feel free to email me.

Errgh, if he wasn't 3.5 hrs away I could use him. I feel deprived! But luckily, there's a vet in CT 5 mins away from me who was on the RMCA vet page. I was so surprised to find a competent vet close to me!

That's so great that you have access to such a great vet!!

I recently took my rat to the vet for the first time and I was SO nervous. (It was also the day after I read about that vet who had the rat by the tail!)

Luckily the vet I saw was very gentle with my baby, and even cuddled him on his shoulder to listen to his breathing, while scratching him on his back. I was very impressed. I'll have to ask him if does neuters...

My rat (templeton) is all better now, by the way, he's on byatril and breathing much better. He's not liking his quarintine one bit but he gets to go back tomorrow. Smiley
