Some of you will remember the litter I had from the pet store ratty who came home pregnant, and the problems I had merely keeping them all
alive.
Well, at 10 weeks old the first one is going to a new home. One of the little girls, Harley.
I gave everyone who asked about them the Spanish Inquisition, and this lady is absolutely lovely. She came into the store months ago and with no intention of getting a rat, fell in love with a little baby black hooded that I had called Cricket. Cricket went home with her and kept her name. From the stories I'm being told about her ("She rules the house... she's bitten every dog we have!" "She gets into absolutely everything!") she sounds like she's having a great time.
This lady had intended taking a baby from me from the day they were born, but we had problems getting it together - every time she came into work I wasn't there, when I called her she wasn't there, etc.
Little Harley is coming into work with me today, and going home with Cricket and this lady.
I'm sad because I'm going to miss her, but she is really going to a wonderful home and it is the best thing for her - seven rats is honestly too much for me! Collectively they eat more than my DOG, it takes me a long time to clean both cages and I'm trying to study for my Leaving Certificate, and I don't have time to give them all the attention I feel they deserve.
Justifying it to myself.... heh. I hope I don't cry when she goes!

I don't know how you breeders and rescuers do it.
