I've been surfing the web looking for a great big cage for my bucks. Right now their in a three story wire cage, but I'm hoping to find one with a little more room.
I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the Martin's C-470? It's actually listed on thier cat cage, but the wire looks like it might be small enough for big bucks. Anyone know for sure?
It's on this page: http://www.martinscages.com/cat.htm
It's the big "Penthouse" down on the bottom of the page.

The wire spacing looks a little big... I really wish they would post that information with every cage.

I also don't personally like the bottom level being wire like that -- I prefer the drop-in pans they use for the rat cages.

I have an R-695, and it's perfect. It's not as big as the one you pointed out, but it's roomy.

It's actually the F-470 as well Smiley  My first impressions - you don't want carpeted balconies, and my preference is a plastic drop-in base, not the slide out pans.  I think the ferret bar spacing is good to contain big bucks, but I'm not 100% on that.  I think if you can afford it (oh, and have a place big enough to clean it) - go for it!  Smiley  The people at Martin's are AWESOME to deal with, and they will try to do any modifications you ask for.  If I remember correctly, I think Patricia Davidson got one of the largest Martin's Ferret cages, and had "rat size bar" put on it....

The bottom level is wire? It didn't look like it to me, but you're right I prefer a solid bottom.
They really need to put more information on their page.

kmw, you're right, the F-470 looks identical. I'll try contacting them and see if they can just work out some sort of a "custom" cage of that size but the rat size mesh. Smiley

The R-680 and R-685 have the same dimensionx as the C-470.  Actually the R-680 is the same except for the wire spacing is for rats.  The R-685 has a small landing, second floor and flip top instead of 2 balconies.  You can ask for the flip top on the R-680 or R-695 for a little extra money.  The rat cages are also powder coated instead of PVC coating on the cat cages.  I've never had PVC on my rat cages so I don't know if they chew it or not.

I already had an R695 PWD and got a flip top later. I think the cost was $15. Shipping and handling costs have increased a lot, so I imagine it would run $30 or more at this point. But it was worth every penny!

If you are buying it at the same time, it is only $10 extra.  I just got my R695 with a flip open top, and I must say I wouldn't have it any other way.  I use it ALL the time.

I made my own flip top by just using garbage bag ties to close it. Ratties can't get out, but I can open it easily anytime. Cool

What's a flip top lid? Another opening on the top? Or does the entire top lift off?

Great idea thanks! I am going to be using cable ties, so that will work great. I won't be the top opening much, just want to make sure I can get large toys & houses in. I didn't even think of that. Thanks!

The flip top lid is offered on the R-685.  You can order instead of the regular lid that comes with the R695.  It is held closed by spring hooks.  The same ones that hold the cage to the pan.

An extra balcony $5.00.  An extra ramp is $3.00.

You can call or email them any questions.  They are VERY nice and VERY helpful.
