Failure is not as painful as regret.

« on: May 17, 2003, 10:23:40 AM »

A few days ago I took my mice to the vet (she's great with mice, rats, birds and all exotics). After she examined my mice (she examined all five but only charged me for one!)  Ratty Smiley we were talking about rats. An older couple had just lost (died of old age) their ratty and are looking for another. My rats were a rescue and I don't know of any breeders down here in south Florida. Anyone out there know of adoptions or breeders? They would rather not purchase a petstore or feeder rat. Thanks for any help.

What part of South Florida?  Ginkajaru on the boards here is a breeder in the Dade County area.  I'm on the other coast myself, but no breeders here.  Although if they're on this coast, you might want to check the thread about the unexpected babes near Gainesville.  They'll be needing loving homes soon, and they'll be the best kind of rescue.

Good luck!

Amphigorey is in Orlando, but may be hard to reach for a week or so. I'd recommend that rattery. Here's a list of Florida breeders:

Marybelle, I am in Hollywood, Florida which is in Broward County. My small animal vet is in Pompano. I will definitely check out Ginkajaru. I would drive to Gainesville if I were looking for an adoption, but I don't know if this couple would be willing. It's worth letting them know. Smiley

Scout, thanks for the info. I'll check out the list tomorrow. It's never to early to check out the local breeders for when I get GGMR.  Wink

Hi Frantic!

Try this thread. Someone in North Florda has some accidental preganacies. I can help transport to South Florida if need be. I live in Gainesville FL. buffy_newbie@yahoo.com

RAATS in the Carolinas has a bunch of fosters looking for homes.  We could get them to you if you're interested.

Wink I have 14 rats looking for homes. I raised them myself. I am retiring for a while and I can't keep all of them so 14 are looking for homes. I am located in Portcharlotte Fl. I have 7 rats 4 females and 3 males looking for homes and they are 2 months. And the rest are a year and under. All adorable and a must see. There is a small fee which is negotiable, to the right homes. If you are interested you can e-mail me at kbrodents@excite.com.

buffynewbie and xedra77 and kbrodents,
Thanks for all the info. I forwarded a link to this thread to the veterinarian. She called today while I was out and now we are playing phone tag. Hopefully her clients will find it in their hearts to adopt a  pair of rescue ratties.
I am getting GGMR, but have to ignore it because of present circumstances. I do know that in the (hopefully) far distant future when my ratty babies go over the rainbow bridge, I won't have to go far to find more furry angels to share my home.

The post below this one: "Gainesville , Florida" is a woman who is looking to rehome her three rats because she's allergic to them.

Also the post two below this one: "rats need homes ASAP: dad said they had to go, and soon, or else" has number of rats in Port Charlotte (I don't know where that is in FL).

Hope this helps.
