Rat Lover!

« on: May 26, 2003, 09:16:03 AM »

Well, my situation isn't too good right now.  A month ago I got kicked out of my house, along with all my animals.  A friend of mine agreed to watch over my animals until I got an apartment, which would  be in about a month from now, but unfortunately his situation is changing also.  He is moving out of his apartment back to his parents house where he cannot take them along, and he's going to be out at the end of this month.  My mother agreed to take my cats and my ferret, but absolutely refuses to take the rats.  I've begged and pleaded with her, but she will not.  (she wouldn't even let me move in when I got kicked out!)  I never intended for this situation to happen, and can assure you that I'm absolutely heartbroken.  I decided to check on here to see if anyone might want to adopt them, and if those efforts failed then I was planning on taking them down to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen, MA, but for obvious reasons why one can assume why I want to find homes first.

All together I have seventeen rats, 11 girls and 6 boys.  They are beautifully marked, mostly dumbos, and a mixture of standards, and there are a variety of colors.  The reason why I have way more girls than boys is that I had unknowingly bought a pregnant female, and then a couple weeks later realized the mistake.

Their ages also vary.  Two of my boys are about 2 years old, my other boys are a little under one year.

All of my girls are a little under one year.

As for colors, males: 1 black berkshire standard, 1 blue berkshire standard, 1 blue self standard, 1 hairless dumbo, 1 agouti hooded standard, and 1 black hooded standard.

the girls: 1 champagne hooded standard, 2 black berkshires standard, 1 black hooded standard, 1 black variegated standard, the other six girls look like himilayans, but they're not, that's the best I can describe their markings, and they are all dumbo.

I have two Martin's R-695's that they are housed in.  I was going to charge a $5 adoption fee for the rats and donate them to my local shelter here.  As for the cages, maybe if need be, I could give them to the MSPCA if I needed to surrender some of my rats to them, or if I adopt a good amount from here, maybe sell them for around $25 each to someone who lives close by, and also donate that money.

Any questions or replies, feel free to pm me.

Thank you very much

I am sorry about your situation. I simply cant take in any more rats but I am interested in your cages if you do place some of the rats and can part with the cages afterward, if they are powder coated I'd pay much more than $25. good luck..

Regretfully, I cannot personally transport that far.  I'm kinda restricted to southern New Hampshire and parts of Mass.  Right now I'm sharing a car with my fiance  Undecided

I could transport the boy from Mass.  TO New Haven-ish CT or maybe a little further south... BabyBlue where could you get to out of NYC, up CT way?  I'll be in Mass. next Saturday, in Worcester, but I could meet Bensiato somewhere.

You guys can either post here or email me at ratgrl@earthlink.net

Oooooh! *bounces with excitement* I'm not too familiar with the CT area, I don't know how far it is from where I am, but I'll look it up and let you know.

Do you have any pictures of him? How old is he? Was he ever sick with anything? What's his personality like? Does he get along with other rats? Sorry for so many questions, I'm getting all excited Hyper

LOL.. babyblue, you're so funny Smiley  Hunt some directions and let me know.  I'd like to help out if I can.  I'm pretty much at capacity, unfortunately, otherwise I would love to take a couple of the kids.  If you do have one of the Martin's free up, however, I'b be more than willing to pay you for it.

Like I said, I'll be up Worcester way next Saturday, and likely again a week or two after that.

I can help you by listing your rats on my website (I am located in MA).
However, if it will be on my website, it will be supported by my reputation, so I will have to ask few more questions. Straight and honest answers will be the best way to make friends.

Please, e-mail me: krisolya@yahoo.com

Tracy I signed up for the transport group.. I'm just useless when it comes to posting to those groups (I feel like a newbie on them).. I also don't think that I signed up for the database, and would like to but again don't know how.

Well, good news for me.  I'm putting this thread on stand-by for a few days.  I think I may have found someone who will keep them for me temporarily, but he wants money...so tomorrow he said we'd talk further and arrange a price.  I totally forgot about the rat transport!   I'll definitely check that group out if need be.

So for now, stand-by *crosses fingers*

Thanks to everyone for their quick replies.
