Is there anybody doing rat rescue in Minnesota, especially the Twin Cities area?  I have been doing guinea pig rescue for 10 years.  I am often called about other species of "pocket pets" in need, and when possible I refer these on to other rescues.

A couple of the larger city pounds often have rodents surrendered by their owners.  Unlike most of the other animal shelters, they do not keep these animals indefinitely until they are adopted.  The animals are offered for adoption, and the staff does try to find other rescues or shelters to take them, but if they are not gone in a certain amount of time they may be euthanized.

Earlier this week I was contacted about a pair of huge friendly 1 1/2 year old male rats that had been turned in by their owner.

If anybody is interested in these rattie boys, please email me for the contact information to the pound.  If anybody is doing rat rescue in Minnesota, I would love to know who you are so I can refer rattie-in-need calls to you.

Thanks!  Vicki - Jack Pine Guinea Pig Rescue, MN

Hi Vickie! I'd love to know, too! Got 5 boys here who are looking for forever homes out of the Menlo Park rescue. All are socialized and very sweet - about 3-4 months old.

I just checked with the pound, the 2 huge middle-aged rattie boys are still there - but their time is running out quickly.  The person I talked with didn't know if they would even make it to Saturday.  This pair was surrendered by their owners on May 31st, so they have been there for quite some time, hoping to be adopted.  If that doesn't happen very soon they will be euthanized.

According to my contact the ratties are friendly and appear to be healthy.  Adoption fee is a mere $3 each.  This pound is in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.  Please email me for contact information if you are interested in saving these big boys.

I was just going to start a post asking the exact same there....are there rat rescues in M?? Are there adoption places here in MN? I am in northern MN and have gotten both my rats from a pet store but as soon as I get a bigger cage I would like to adopt one.
