dude, how do you guys get those corner litter pans to stick like that?? I'd use them if I knew how!
You mean those colorful plastic litter pans?
They have little hook things on the back of them- meant so the critter can't pull them from the side of the cage. You just attatch them to the wire in a corner of the cage.
Mine has only fallen once or twice since I have had it in the past 6 months (no rats were injured, and it's not that high of the the ground), and I've witnessed at least 3 of my boys on it at once.
They especially love taking thier treats and eating them on it.

Here are the two R-695's. 5 girls in the one on the left and 5 boys on the right.
And here is my R-670 with 2 boys in it

This is when Mr. Jingles was sick...we had blankets on every level for comfort and to make sure it was dust-free - he even had a blanket in his hammock and all the levels were lowered for him because of his age. Of course it will be set up differently when the bRATlets are big enough (probably in a week or two):

I used a lighter and burnt 4 holes in it, then used zip ties. For some reason the hooks don't fit my cage.

i just got my cage today.
my day went like this:
- mad dash to petstore to get cage, bedding & water bottle
- come back home set up cage
- run to another petstore b/c they have hairless ratties, get hairless rattie
- bring him home and watch him for a bit to make sure he's ok
- run to walgreens to get benedryll (b/c that petstore was a petstore
slash crystal shop?? and the incense made my eyes swell up!!)
- go back to the petstore where i got the cage and pick up the other
rattie and food.
and now.........everyone is happy and asleep! i just have to finish modifying this cage so those boogers can't crawl between the bars! sheesh!
anyhow i have to get batteries for my digital camera tommorrow and then i will post pics!

Here's my homemade cage. Sorry about the file size.
This pic is about a month old, so it's a bit different from the current arrangement. The green curtain is gone, the PVC tube is on the bottom level along with a crumpled up old work shirt. There's also a ramp leading up from the shelf where Rufus is sitting, and the purple plastic flowerpot is clamped onto the inside corner of the door.
I feel bad about the lack of toys and other playthings, but my boys just don't seem to show any interest in such things. Even the tube almost never gets used. Eating and sleeping is about it.
They do get a lot of out time though. So they're not totally bored.

Seems to be a popular thread around here!
And the boys do love their big cage setup... it's just that the connecting tube can create some interesting hassles at cleaning time. Need to rethink that design option in the next upgrade....

It's neat how you set up that cage, do the rats ever bite the ferrets tail? And how come the FERRET gets so much room huh? (j/k)

Nah they could both really care less about eachother, haven't had any problems.
I think a 4 1/2 pound ferret diserves a little more room then a couple young male ratties
tee hee.

Yeah... well, the smaller one is a Martin's R-...695? (Galvanized... ick... never again... only coated....) The larger one I made myself from hardware cloth, etc. - and had a fun time designing it, let me tell you! Then I just cut matching holes in opposite sides of the two cages and fidgeted the tube into position (not the easiest of tasks). Now if I could only figure out why the younger boys like to sleep in that tube... and then wake up and squeak like crazy when someone tries to (gasp!) come through. Silly boys....
