Baby Rat (Male) Available (Colorado and possibly East Coast)
«

I have an adorable male baby rat named Spike that may need a good home. He was previously reserved but I haven't heard from his would-be-owner in over two weeks, and I would like to find him a permanent home if I don't hear from the lady in a week or so.
Spike is an adorable Opal (American Blue Agouti) Berkshire Rex with a Lightning Blaze. He was born on May 13, 2003 and will be five weeks old on Monday (the 16th of June). His mother is MAR Kachina and his father is EAGL Houdini - he comes from great lines and has a nice pedigree. He's very healthy and sweet, and active! More information about him as well as pictures and his pedigree can be found here:
http://aurora.flatirons.org/kachina_houdini.html
I would like to find him a good home somewhere in Colorado, but my family is also traveling to the east coast (Philadelphia, Boston, New York, etc. - we're hitting a lot of the big cities on the coast and we're also traveling up to Maine for a week) in July and *MAY* be able to take him to someone over there if anyone is interested. (Does anyone happen to know if you can take a small rat on a plane without having to pay?)
Please email me at

or reply to this post if you are interested in adopting him! Thank you.

Call your airline, but usually if they fit in an underseat carrier there's no charge. All these ppl. coming to the east coast with kiddos.. it's bad news for me

I live in NJ, if you are coming up this way, and I MIGHT be able to take Spike. Not concrete on that or anything. I just got a new baby boy (4 weeks) and while he loves his older "brothers," they're not his age, you know? They're about the same age now, so they'd make good buddies. Let me know how everything goes.

When will you be leaving in July? I'm going to be leaving for CO July 8th and probably will arrive that same day... Maybe a day later. I'd really love to have this boy.

were there any problems with the mother giving birth to a litter at 14 months old?
any animal that flies on a plane will need a health certificate from a veterinarian within 5-10 days from the date of the flight. and any animal that flies in the cabin with the person still is charged for the flight as well AFAIK, i have never heard of the animal flying free, they are charged the same as any other animal (but each airline differs as to the cost but there is a carry on fee - for delta it is 75 bucks). most airlines actually do not allow rats to fly within the cabin though (they are specifically excluded) so i would check into that.

Thank you so much for your interest, everyone! Unfortunatley (for all of you), the lady who had reserved Spike just contacted me .. apperantly her house got struck by lightning and her computer got way messed up
. Sorry about that, but thanks again for your interest and help about the airlines! Spike is flattered that he was so popular
Kim: The mom didn't have any problems giving birth - I wasn't expecting her to have problems anyways, because she has been bred before and you can breed a female safely up until she is 18 months old (at least that's what I've heard from other breeders) if she has been bred before. Thanks for the detailed info about the airlines as well!
