I Was A Rattie Mommy For 9 Years...

« on: June 18, 2003, 04:22:18 PM »

Well I just got back from the vet. Dr. Handel dug out the puss and crusties remaining from Odin's nueter, it would've turned into an abcess. Poor Odin squeeked loudly.  Blue Dumbo Big Eyes  I felt so bad. But he's all clean now. He weighs 1 lb. 1 oz.! They gave me Amoxy-drops to give to him for a week, once in the morning, once at night so he won't get infected again. And the vet gave him some there, he liked it!  Grin  He readily licked it out of the syringe. So that was good. The vet was very nice! He said they've had a couple of rats in the past week and he said they like them there. I was pretty happy with this vet. I am in a good mood now and I gave Odin some nutri-cal for being a good boy. I just thought I'd let everyone know, Handel with care is a good vet.  Blue Dumbo Smile

PS - The whole thing cost me $55.00, since I have no previous experience with rats and vets, is that a good deal? The physical / clean was 37.00 and the meds were 18.00 - I expected it to be more, so I was just wondering in comparison to other vets if I got a good deal.  Smiley

I'm glad you have a good vet, and I'm happy that everything went well for Odin.  'Tis very good to be abscess free!

I think you got a good deal.  I'm glad to hear Odin's doing better - what a good, brave boy he was!  Smoochies from me!

That sounds about average, and maybe a little on the low side, even.  Smiley  Sounds like you got a very good deal just because the vet likes rats!

Yes, I'd say you got a very good deal. Unless this was the same vet that did the surgery. My vet will treat for free if it's a result of a surgery she performs. Meds I still have to pay for.

With our vet, the first check-up after surgery is free. Meds are extra. Sean's neuter was $65.00. She gives us a multiple pet discount, for check-ups, we can have her see 3 of them for $40.00. I asked her if she could give us a ''quantity discount'' for having the 3 new boys done all at once. She just laughed. BTW, Sebastion gets ''The Big Snip'' next Tuesday. I haven't told him, yet.

thats not a bad price for a vet visit! my vet doesn't even charge me for the physical if he's getting medicine too, but she's one in a million.

ps. my chevy weighs 1.1 too!
