Rattie Poos!

« on: May 01, 2002, 09:34:08 PM »

Some of you know I had to give my rats up because of my horrible, wicked allergy twords them.

Well the girl I gave my Sara to has been giving me updates.  The thing is, she is not describing the Sara I know.  Sara is active, fun, loving, sociable, playful, eats anything, sweet & friendly.

Well my friend says that Sara is not eating much, just laying around, doesn't want to play, and basically doesn't seem to want anything to do with my friend or their family.  Sara is withdrawn.

Do you think that Sara misses me as much as I miss her?  I've heard some of you describe a rats personality like a dog's.  My dogs get that way when I go on a vacation (that's why I don't go anywhere without them).  But could it be possible that Sara is HOMESICK?  THIS BREAKS MY HEART EVEN MORE THAN MY MISSING HER SO BAD.

I never in my wildest dreams thought a rat could have so many emotions like we do.  Can this be true?

My rats miss me when I'm gone and some of my kids watch for me when I leave the room.

They are VERY excited whenever I come home or even into the room after being gone a short time.  They don't do this with strangers.  Truely I think rats are closer to dogs than any other pets.  (Other than dogs of course!  LOL)

That reminds me.   When Sara was home here and she heard my voice, she would pop out of her hammock so fast to see me.  She didn't do that when she heard my boyfriends voice.

Geez........  these ratties are so smart.

My friend won't let me see Sara because she wants Sara to get over me and start interacting with her family.  And it might make it harder for Sara to see me.    And before Sara, I thought a rat was just a rat.  SO MUCH, I LEARNED IN A MONTH!

Also, I guess today there was a little progress because Sara wouldn't eat from my friends hand (always took any kind of food from me) but today Sara accepted a piece of banana.

Did you ever try any medications for your allergies? Just wondering.

Sorry to hear Sara's not doing to great. I hope she gets better. And yeah, I'd say she probably misses you. My rats took to me really quick, and are glad to wake up to see me (could have something to do with the fac I usually bare treats...), but hate to see me leave.

Maybe you should pay your rat a visit? See if she lights up?  Maybe you can try some meds as one of the other posters suggested?  I think both of you are sad!  Cry

As she said, her friend doesn't want her to visit so Sara can move on. I personally agree...I know it sounds terrible, but it's probably the best thing for the rat that she doesn't see her.

Hey!  I was woondering how you were doing with Sara, as I you had posted about how you wanted to keep her, keep her, keep her while having her over to visit.  I was going to suggest reducing your number of rats from nine to just two when you posted about giving them up, but thought I had blathered on enough.  Do you have the same degree of bad reactions when just Sara is over?  Also, someone mentioned Allegra as an allergy medication that worked for them in a post today....

I only had two rats.  But when sara was visiting, my allergies were just as bad if not a little worse (the allergy attacks came on faster and harder).  I tried Zyrtek & Allegra & Benedryl.
